Why I dont buy the Canberra Hype (yet)....

Well, we have completed 2 rounds and the slimey greens are on top.

In all likelihood, they will go 3-0 this week after beating the Dragons down at Bruce. The raiders have a good coach on board and a few exciting juniors, particularly in the backline. A top goal kicker to boot, they look like a solid side

But fact is, they haven't beaten much! Even if they dispose of the Dragons this weekend, they are hardly beating a top notch side. Dragons will be without Ryles, Timmins and Barrett. Raiders beat a Cowboys side that were pathetic. The raiders could only post 15 points against a Tigers side that has been known for its pathetic defense for many years.

The raiders might even go 4-0 or 5-0. I believe they have a pretty decent run coming up. But i reserve my opinion until they play a top side such as the Roosters or Brisbane.

Imagine the bandwagon jump if they go 10-0 though. Every public servant from Fyshwick to Queenbeyan will be shedding their suit and 80s ties for a woodgers raiders guernsey!

Somehow i don't see it though. Come round 8 (i believe), the dogs will put them in their rightful place :D

Cheers,
Moffo

Raiders beat Tigers who beat Dragons ,and beat them away from home.
Playing at Freezeyertitzoff Stadium, they are entitled to start favourites.

Yeah, i believe struggling to beat Souths and a loss is much more convincing. ;)

No one has said that we are set for the premiership, only that we are going to be competitive against anyone in the comp. The only top 8 sides we didn't beat last year were the Broncos and the Roosters and even then, the ref handed the Broncos and win with a penalty right in front. Last year we only won one match away from home, which doesn't even compare to thisyear wherewehave come away with the points from two of the toughest away matches there are.

You always regret predictions like these but if we stay injury free, we won't face a challenge until the Warriors in round 11 in Wellington.

So Moffo, if you guys beat the Tigers can I use the excuse of no Hill, Pearson and O'Donnell?

Also, you held high hopes for Manly who were beaten by the Cowboys and we thrashed them.

Again, where has someone said the Tigers have terrible defence. I always thought it was their defence that was their biggest strength.

But, you know what makes me laugh the most. Willow's brain dead mates over at the Dragons forum are saying they'll be lucky to win against such quality opposition (Canberra)and if they do win at Bruce, then look out. These same brain dead individuals mocked my season prediction of Canberra finishing sixth. So what does that say abut them and St George? By my reasoning, if they were mocking my prediction and then they are saying Saints will be lucky to beat us, well could one not assume that Saints are worse than Canberra and have no right being anywhere near the semis or is it just plain stupidity on the part of Dragons fans? I think it's a combo of both.

BTW Moffo, how many Canberra fans do you see getting carried away with bold predictions of us winning the comp? At this stage Canberra fans are playing the waiting game and with good reason but there are many positives to come out of the first two rounds, mainly that we played within ourselves and still managed to win on the road, twice.

Could you imagine if Saints won two on the trot away from home(lol, will never happen) and the dribble they'd be carrying on with?

FYI Moffo, we paly Canterbury in round 7 and I will be heading down to that game. I'm actually looking forward to it because it will be a tough game and from what I have read elsewhere, Dogs fans have given us some respect so there is no animosity from me, just anticipation of a good, hard clash.

Hmmm, interesting points

With respect, Hill, O'Doonnell and Pearson are not the same caliber of player as Barrett, Timmins and Ryles. Saints are missing their best 3 players, i dont think the aforementioned 3 are the best tigers players

Manly will beat NZ this week. Trust me

Tigers let in a lot of points last year. Short memory eh?

I never said Canberra fans are getting carried away. I dunno where i said that? The wins on the road were good, ill give you that, albeit against the Tigers and Cowboys

Anyways, all im saying is that i haven't seen enough yet

I agree with you Moffo, I haven't seen enough yet either but your provocative title contradicts your statement "I never said Canberra fans are getting carried away. I dunno where i said that? The wins on the road were good, ill give you that, albeit against the Tigers and Cowboys"

Where is all the hype coming from then if not from Canberra fans? The media don't even know that we exist.

Sensationalism sells Legend ;)

The hype has come from the media IMO. Nothing major yet, just a few comments here and there

We are defintely a better side then last year. We would have lost that Tigers game last year but this year we looked comfortable and didnt show any signs of panic. The forwards are working as a pack and look like they can take and dish out alot more punishment then last year when only Ruben Wiki and TerryMartinwere consistently holdingtheir own.

Whether we aregood enough to finish top 6is hard to say at the moment and will probably come down to injuriesbut based on what I have seen I would be dissapointed if we didnt win more then half our games.

I think the Raiders will do very well this year and could possibly sneak into the top 4.
When I saw them at Morwell at the trail vs the Storm, they just looked good....big, strong, good coach, good players, played really well..bought well for the season.
And so far have not put a foot wrong.

I agree Ms Storm, the Raiders have not put a foot wrong as yet but I expect Saints to really test us this weekend.

I think they key for us is our wingers. If they can get in and take two rucks between them in every set of six, the forwards will stay relatively fresh as Edwahu has already pointed out.

Lolesi for all his faults looks a lot stronger and faster than previous seasons and we are no longer a small side.

Some of the players look a lot bigger especially O'Hara. He is huge and is now running like a freight train. Joel Monaghan has finally gained some self confidence and is backing his own ability with some incisive runs. Last week the Tigers tried a bomb on him and he easily outjumped their whole side to get the ball. The bloke must be over 6'3 so why kick it to such a tall player?

Hindmarsh is giving us the stability in the middle of the field while Terry Martin is one of the best locks in the NRL. He has become a real enforcer with some punishing defence. Imagine if Rua had stayed?

I heard we may be getting the Volcano back next year so things are looking good.

imagine if you had kept o'dell manuell

imagine if you had kept matt rua

ok, reality.
the raiders are an average team, with no superstars ready to shine.
so far they have beaten an injury stricken and badly prepared cowboys outfit and an ill disciplined and unfit tigers mob.

the bubble has to burst and i predict this weekend will see it happen.
the biggest problem is the captain, woolyford shows no leadership or example

god help you if ruben or tyran get hurt.

LMAO. Faumuina and Manuel are right up there with Dally M nuffy of the year, the mercurial Greg Wolfgramm. I do not miss those two in the slightest and they caused me nothing but grief. Good riddance I say.

Imagine if PJ or John Carlawget hurt.......

Ah, dont get me wrong dubby, its good to see different teams like Melb and the Raiders get a run at the top of the ladder

The gist of my original point was that they have played no oneyet that i would consider premiership threats. Saints may well be, but not in a team without barrett, Timmins and Ryles

Should pack them out at Penrith next Sat night!

Cheers,
Moffo
