FMD where did all the optimists and pro Mc Fookknuckle & Millward people go.
Don't worry I'll do the post for you.
We are going to sign "a big fish" in the backs for 2019 and that will strengthen our side unbelievably, so why would Widdop go anywhere else seeing as we won the comp?
The signs of solidarity will be so great that we will have formed a brotherhood and all will be joyful and triumphant in Dragon land.

The reality is even scarier.

The point is DQ..he was asked that very question and said NO in respect to being homesick.
And I congratulate you if you get back to a size 10. But if you like your fush & chups that would of made the task more difficult.
Squeezed into the size 10. No more fush and chups

Seriously?

Firstly, he didn't give a time frame during the discussions yet the reports said he did. Secondly, a private conversation was leaked by the club which resulted in incorrect information being reported to the public. Thirdly, the club left him to resolve the issue before coming out with their own version of events. Why would any player want to play for a club that firstly breached their trust and secondly didn't support them because they knew they were in the wrong.

Not sure how much clearer I can make it. The shit thing with this thread is that all the anger is aimed at Widdop when it should be aimed at the club. Like I said, the statement from Millward is pure arse covering and crisis management due to their own stupidity.

This is the information I have and the source is credible.

We can move on but this situation has been created from incompetence when it really shouldn't have happened at all.

I wasn't for or against either Widdop or the club, my whole point was if for whatever reason he wants out then accept that and make the most of the situation. However, if what you say above is what happened then let him go, what a prima donna. He has a "private" conversation about wanting to leave and go to SL (which he has made public in the past) and he spits the dummy because its reported he wants to go to SL.

Seriously, unless there is more to it than what you say there is no reason for him to be so self righteous. Given his status within the team, the fans deserve to know if he is thinking of moving on before his contract finishes.

Widdop may or may not recover well from his injury. He will no best how he is travelling and so if he does not have the confidence and knows what will be expected of him, he will move on rather than have his worth devalued.

He acknowledged he is with us for 2019 Carlton. It'll be a huge blow to the team if he leaves.

Not done yet @BLM01 , but

" He's heading to Cronulla, a great signing for the club. I know him and his agent were originally keen on only doing a one-year deal to see how he settles in but there's a feeling at Cronulla that the club is not going to be used as a transit lounge that would open the door for a club like the Sydney Roosters to grab him in 2020 [when they lose superstar Cooper Cronk]," Rothfield said.

"They're in talks now just to ink the deal and I think by the end of the day Shaun Johnson will have signed a three-year contract with the Sharks."

You have completely misread every single post. I don't know what more to say.

The statements made were not definitive and had a lot of wiggle room in them.

This was what I am saying, if he leaves in 2019, is not physically able to compete or does not have his heart in it, this will have massive implications. I am not knocking Widdop but unless he can deliver $1 million worth of value next year bite the bullet and use the money strategically.

You're right I have jumped the gun by a few days. Reports were that he had been given a release to join the Sharks however, although the Sharks are in the process of signing him, they have not as yet.

Signing New Zealand Kiwis half Shaun Johnson from the Warriors is another item the Sharks hope will happen to bolster the club's on-field fortunes.

An offer has been made to the 28-year-old but it is unlikely to be finalised on Thursday, as head coach Shane Flanagan is attending the annual NRL coaches conference at the Moore Park headquarters.

Money saved from Kangaroos winger Valentine Holmes deciding to leave the Sharks earlier this month to pursue a start in the NFL will free up the funds to sign Johnson on a one-year deal.

I stand by my comments that this was poorly handled by the club, and that the personal reasons behind the guys decision has yet to hit the public. It aint $$$.

I don't get it.

If Widdop didn't ask for a release on his contract, why would the club leak that he wanted out.

If he wanted to finish his career in England which I presume the club was aware of, why all the cloak and dagger as the club has let players go before their contracts have finish in the past.

Yeh and Valentine Holmes was on his prior winger contract money for 2019. The big mill contract was from 2020 but of course they could sign Johnson on the same money for this year.
And how is that salary cap scandal going down there in the Shire..
.resolved yet, compliant yet?..fined or points docked yet?

I've made my comments from the point of view of the outside observer, I dont have the benefit of "inside" information. You have implied some issue so far unknown was behind the discussions based on what someone has told.

I'll ask you outright, what is the reason that led to the discussion between Widdop and the club?

The leak didn't come straight from the club to the media - it went via other channels that added their own spin to the story. eg official involved in the conversation talking to a mate who then talks to another mate etc until it gets to the media. During that time, "immediate release" and "homesick" has been added to the narrative and bingo - newsworthy story.

What was the conversation that was taking place, was it official or was it a general discussion?
