Widdop seeks release

Hahahaha...

Have I inspired you now or annoyed you? Maybe both.
Good boy. Not exactly but you are getting around to the topic at hand. If you want to engage in utterly meaningless but personal attacks, @muzby is on your side but that is why @muzby is @muzby. Every village needs an idiot. Seems we have more than one. Much like the team.

Seriously, the guy (Widdop) has been a disaster, hasn't he? In the very near future do you think he will be regarded as the worst ever (c) for us? The results suggest he will.

Annoyed with your hysterical reaction i went back and reviewed all the posts in the thread. A few of you, led by you, are really fanatical. Like you take any criticism of Widdop personally. @Carlton is surely the most mild-mannered guy on this forum but around 10 pages back on this thread, you were just furious of him for even questioning Widdop's past and future at the Dragons. He hardly denounced Widdop like @ouryears but merely questioned it.

So instead of engaging in hysterical personal attacks and insults, the best thing I can do is get right back on topic. It's obvious that will annoy you most.

Widdop has been an unmitigated disaster! Are these last continuous 5 years, the entire time of which Widdop stated he wanted to be, was recruited to be and paid to be our main playmaker the most unsuccessful 5 years in the history of SGI or St George? As a playmaker he is absolute rubbish! At Melbourne he was merely a guy who followed Cronk, Smith, Slater and I think Inglis around and chimed in when they told him to chime in. And he won a premiership doing that. Fantastic! Almost every year there are barely NRL standard players who win premierships due to a little thing you may have heard about called "the salary cap". The Rorters team for last year may be an exception but they have never heard of "the salary cap".

Now he is going to be fullback for us! I'm really happy about it. More optimistic about this year than I have been since the first few rounds of the first year of supercoach Price. I think he will do well reverting back to what he was at Melbourne. But FFS, Widdop is going to be one of if not the highest paid fullback in the competition!! On more than RTS, Tedesco (officially) and Ponga! He is not even 1/4 the fullback of those 3!

We have every right to expect him to play out of his skin week in, week out! And if we don't get that, you can expect me to denounce him every week on a regular basis whether you like it or not.

So, the Dally M judges (who regularly vote Widdop highly) are wrong, are they?

Perhaps you simply have NFI?

Widdop is a first class 5/8.

He will be sorely missed in 2020.

If he gives it his all in 2019 and McMuppet manages to properly manage the talent he has available, our team will play finals footy.

I couldn’t agree more with the veracity of your first two sentences, but I’m unsure about the accuracy of the last half dozen words.

I have nothing against Widdop but can simply say that he is a natural running five-eighth who SGI wanted as a game manager. Widdop is not a game manager and when under pressure fails badly. How many times has he failed to put the Dragons in a position to win a game that was decided by one or two points. Missing field goals, failing to call for the ball to kick a field goal, kicking out on the full when all that was needed was a judicious grubber to the sideline …………..

On the other hand, I believe Norman will be the game manager that we have badly needed over the past 8 years.

Norman and Hunt, who are both a little older now, more experienced and more mature than they were when they last partnered together in the halves at the Broncos, will fit together like hand in glove and be the talk of the competition by mid season.

This halves partnership will see the Dragons play deep into the finals after making the top 4 in 2019.

How many times did he create the play that won us games?
You give a few examples of where he made an error (they all make them regardless of how good they are) without giving credit for all the positive things he created for a pretty lacklustre team.
Mc Fookknuckle is so pre determined in everything he does there is every possibility he has said forget the drop kick and go for the try in close situations and in fact it is rumoured he said "there will only be one drop kick around this club and that's me"

OMG!
Possm mate dont jump on the bandwagon you are better than that.

So, for 16 or so rounds last yesr when we lead the comp was due to bad game management? Wow!
Then i suppose dislocating his shoulder and being out until the semi against the Broncos, which we won btw, was also his bad game management?
If you are referring to the semi against the Rabbits, well he didnt play, Kurt Mann was 5/8.
I suppose, by this analysis, JT missing the conversion to give NQ their 1st GF win, was a failure to close out a game? Of course not no one is perfect.

Where will Widdop play in 2019? Who knows,. I only know that from 2020 Norman haf better be on song to even reach the same level as Widdop.

I was surprise to learn that Widdop was leaving at the end of the season (with two years left on his contract) to join up with a team coached by Steve Price.

This to me says it all. It gives me the feeling Widdop does not give a damn about results or who coaches him, it is more of the 'oh well, it's a game that that's the way I make a living', 'sometimes you lose and other times you win'.

Having said all of this, I believe Widdop will shine in the fullback position in 2019. He won't have to manage a game but may shout out advice to his team mates from the back about threats in defence and opportunities in attack. Something missing since Dugan moved on.

I think you will find we were playing poorly prior to Widdop's injury. The coincidence was more related to our forwards being busted/fatigued and because of this being dominated by the opposition.

On the back of my two son's and my Dragon's jumper is the number 6. Although it on mine since the Mundine era and on my son's because they love their dad and wanted the same number, it has not been changed and we always cheer Widdop on because of it.

Mine is only my honest assessment, I have no reason for malice against Widdop.

Widdop is a great player and our best and most important when he is on.
He isn't a clutch player though that loves the pressure. There are some halves that just thrive on those big game situations and step up when needed. Others fall apart under pressure. Hunt is a classic example. Widdop doesn't quite fall apart but he doesn't step up thats for sure.
I don't know how Norman is under pressure when the game is on the line but hopefully he is the one that can finally kick a field goal or make the right play when needed.

The same judges that regularly rate Woods as the best prop in the game? Yes, they are wrong. It's not even too bad for his team because he is a prop. Give them the ball and say "run". For us and our marquee playmaker, the results prove he has been an unmitigated disaster. Are these last continuous 5 years the most unsuccessful in the history of the club?

I don't think he is a bad player. I'm optimistic he will do well at fullback. No hope in hell he will earn his salary of almost a mil a year but not a bad player. Just a f**king terrible playmaker!

Not many. Obviously. And I know he almost single-handedly lost one of the three finals games we have played over the last 5 years. I know how it is. If Jack makes 50 tackles and 300m running but Widdop falls on a dropped bomb to score a try, Widdop is MoM for you and Dally M judges.

It's ok. I think @TruSaint and I agree that with playmaking being taken away from him, Widdop will be much better this year. He wn't go close to earning his salary but will be much better. Ironically he will fare far worse in Dally M polling. He may find it difficult to get a single point. Norman will win most of ours because it isn't popular to award Dally M points to Hunt.

No, the period 1986-91’ was far worse and makes the current quagmire look like a Sunday picnic.

It won’t happen, but I would love to have seen mentored by a genuine coach while at Saints. He, along with several others, has been let down by poor coaching. This said, the skill set of the guy is palpable.

Skillset is great ... decision making at times so so ..

A perfect example in the highlights of a roosters game, he gets the ball of an out/in pass from Luc and is 2 on one with Dufty against Tedesco and pulls the wrong reign.

Yet, in a different post you claim
Widdop “isn’t a bad player”.

I think you’re a bit confused.

With a good coach, Widdop could’ve been the best backline recruit Saints has made since the mid 80s.

Kiama Saint - you have either failed to notice my post afterwards ( when I realized the mistake ) or you have decided not to mention it . For the record - it was indeed an honest mistake , simply confusing one commercial with another , nothing more than that .
