In the RLWC newsletter it said wiki is to be involved with the Samoan WC campaign.
Its unsure yet if he will pull on the playing shirt or just be involved behind the scenes.
A real kick in the guts for the WC and NZ if he was to play....

Yeah I would not be happy about this at all. For one he is a NZ all time great - and in my view NZ could bloody well use him!

Secondly, I am really against guys 'defecting' across once the teams are qualified. I can at least respect Vagana putting his hand up for the qualifiers etc. At least that is putting your balls on the line to a degree and you live and die by whether the team makes it.

I am dead against johnny come lately players , be they all time greats or not,

Wiki will only be there in an advisory capacity surely. he has poured too much blood for NZ.

I respect him more than almost any player and it would really hurt if he played.

It could only be as an advisor through his relationship with John Ackland, surely. Anything else as a long time Wiki-Kiwis fan I'd find as a bit of a kick in the teeth.

I think we're getting a little petty about so called defections, we shouldn't pretend that all countries are on equel footing in terms of player talent.

It seems to me that many players have made a solid commitment to get Samoa off the ground. I can't believe you guys aren't raving about it actually. Seems to me that there is great potential for Samoa to join the elite nations very shortly.

Good call Westie.

It does not matter where you were born - NZ , Australia, USA etc - people are always proud to call themselves Samoan.

Plus he's the world record caps holder, so we'd be making a mockery of that tradition too.

He was actually selected for Samoa before he was ever selected for NZ!

However, because NZ had more internationals they ended up getting him first and as a result he never played for Samoa.

For the record I will have no problem with all these blokes playing for Samoa if it is a long term commitment and not a stepping stone to playing for the Kiwis.

Time will tell.

If Samoa off the back of this get a strong domestic comp, more players in the NRL and become a real powerhouse nation - I will be over the moon.

Check out the interviews around the last game. All the blokes keep talking about "starting something" and "pacts" and what not. It seems Vagana is doing something amazing for Samoa and, like I said: not only should you guys be supporting it - you should be f**king raving with excitment.

Ageed. If he does someting in Samoa. What are they gong to do in Samoa itself? I hope a lot because as well know Samoa and Tonga and Fiji can provide the game with strong national sides resulting in more TV money for the RLIF down the track.
