Maybe once expand to 20 teams?

Once we expand to 18 teams I could see a top 9, with an 8 v 9 wildcard match played midweek like they used to in the old NSWRL top 5 days in the event of a tie for fifth.

lol wow they only just got it right (by ripping of the AFL mind you) and not they are going to f--k it right up again well done NRL.

All they care about is money that is clear, unless you make the top 4 you are no chance anyway.

So the teams who finished 6+ points outside of the top 8 could get in place of far superior performing teams? Sounds logical and fair.

That was my first thought, no actually second, my first was Money, they'd do it for the money. Second thought then, what if a team finishes 7th on 30 points and team in 10th spot finishes on 22, how in hell would a sudden death play off between those two teams be fair ?
That's a no from me but the Vote function at the bottom of that story in NRL.com has YES 54% and NO 46%. I give up.

If they want games to mean more at the end of the year, they could just shorten the season by a couple of weeks.

Fans buy into intensity and high stakes not this give everyone a go bullshit.

You want to increase average crowds, have a 17 week comp with a top 6 finals. All intensity all the time.

You want to get more money, expand the game into new markets.

I'm not for the proposal, but this argument could be had currently for teams ranked 6th and 7th.

Reduce the number of rounds to 22 and implement a best of three grand final series. Pretty brutal on GF teams but it will spin alot more cash!

So if they're worried these so called dead rubbers at the end of the season fix up the bloody draw.

FMD we're complicating the game too much with these radical and ridiculous ideas.

EXACTLY!!!!

Take it a step further with 3 divisions of 6 teams (assuming expansion) and you keep more teams with a mathematical shot. Top two from each division into the finals.

Yeah, nah.

The NRL have been reading T-Boon’s threads and decided to run with one of the ideas.

They probably should have read past page one to see what we all really thought...
