All it does is encourage players to stoop to even lower lows and commit foul acts during the game more often. Suddenly preliminary finals are blood baths that only those who cling to yesteryear enjoy. Who gives a f**k about missing 4/5 weeks of 2015 when you can take out players and make life easier to claim premiership glory?

The unfortunate thing for Luke is that there are no excuses he can use for lifting the legs of SBW. There just isn't. If it was a careless high tackle, dangerous contact charge then I believe there's room to move. But not this; certainly not after what we've had to endure this season. There must be consistency and the grand final should never be an exception.

It's the pride of the league thing that shits me. That term was placed on them by their own supporters in the 1920s FFS. They've done nothing for forty years yet their supporters strut around as if they dominate the competition.

I wish their down to earth supporters good luck but the f**ksticks who bang on about glory glory to South Sydney can get a wrench up em.

It sh1ts me too, AG but have they got a case? There were two well attended rallies when they got kicked out and I went to both. Can't see anyone marching to save Easts, Raiders or anyone else for that matter. No one lifted a finger for poor old Norths.

Stand up for Alex? What would be really significant from the Alex injury would be if the league clamped down properly on lifting tackles. All these people calling for leniency because it is the GF seem to have very short memories about the potential outcome of these types of tackles.

Agreed .. It was luck SBW landed on his elbow , NOTHING ELSE! Allow this crap to continue and just like Alex the luck will run out for some unfortunate player.

But those rallies were inflated by outrage at the whole Super League debacle.

If Souths were punted today I guarantee those numbers would not be the same.

People were so angry that News Ltd could control a sport like they tried to that supporters united in anger against News Ltd.

If I lived in Sydney at the time I would have attended those rallies too.

If it happened today I wouldn't bat an eyelid (depending on the circumstances surrounding it).

I'd march for them today and when they got kicked out I wanted them back. Not because they were souths necessarily but because of news ltd and the whole super league bullshit. (As a Canberra fan the SL era was difficult - I was against Rupert and Ribot and the goose CEO at the club who made the decision to cross over. But I stayed a supporter because I love the club).

As I said a vast majority of their fans are decent but there is a core, more than likely bandwagoners, that harp on about the glory years as if they were there and part of the clubs history. After 43 years you'd think they'd become a little bit more humble and realise that the success they had way back won't be realised in the modern era.

I get all that and that was my main motivation too although I have some Souffs buddies that were doing it tough during that time. However, even with the anger against News Ltd I still can't see any other club getting as big a turn out, even Saints.

If a Sydney team were kicked out today, I'd march for them.

Even the Sharks who tried to pick over our carcass when we got punted.

Speaking from experience, not having a team to support is a cold and lonely existence and although you can try to adopt another team it will never be the same.

I have a lot of hate for a number of teams but I hate them from a point of rivalry. Not because I don't want them to exist.

Well said mate. It's easy for fans of clubs who never had to face anything like this to sit back and cast judgment.

I'd march for the Roosters, Manly or anyone else.

I think your blowing it out of proportion. Preliminary finals won't become blood baths; remember you can still get sent off in a game even though it is a preliminary final. Also, I'll tell you who gives a f*** about missing 4-5 weeks of 2015 - coaches! Thats who! Having a player out suspended 4-5 is a major pain in the ass, especially when your trying to retain your premiership title or trying to get another shot at it.

One thing should be remembered - Souths are in the competition because the NRL said yes. Souths lost the appeal unanimously in the High Court, but the NRL decided that as a goodwill gesture they would allow Souths to hold a licence. The court ruled that the NRL had the right to deny entry/ licence to any club.

It depends on how old you are when it happens though.

I was a bears fan as a kid and was 12 when they played their final season as a stand alone club.

Choosing Melbourne to support was easy as I was born there, and no way in hell was I going to support another Sydney team.

Seeing the club I loved kicked out is why I am completely against culling any teams (even if it was Manly).

If the High Court had to consider the case as a "live" case rather than a dead rubber most likely they come to the same conclusion as the court below them did and allow Souths back into the comp. Courts will fudge things when they have to to get the desired outcome

Basically the defense is SBW was never in a dangerous position because "he had control of his body" or some crap like that. Didn't hear all the details on Triple M but yeah.
