after we got the Metta shit out of the way the point was actually a good one, and things proper Rugby League fans should be outraged (yes) about. But whilst we dick around not giving a f**k Union associations around the world either get our game banned, suppressed, even throwing people in jail over it. It's a f**king disgrace it is, both the actions and the laughing it off that you boneheads are doing.

By gum you're right. I've sent out a blanket email to all 5 of my friends and we're going to immediately start lobbying the UAE and associate countries. This.....can....not.....happen.

Anyway, back at the ranch. Did anyone else click on Mascord's kickstarter campaign? Pretty quick to jump all over the recent terrorism overseas to help sell his book.

he has a point! League is too quick to bend over and accept unions desire to nail us. Just because everything's rosy here doesn't mean the biggest Rl nation in the world shouldn't have a responsibility to push back.

wow

Perth Dickhead whinging

The original post is funny, but it would have been nice if the RLIF offered some support to the UAE RL volunteer or RL in general.

Hindsight is fantastic.

The issue here is that UAE RU essentially claimed that they own RL in the UAE. They have killed all progress of RL in the UAE by running to the UAE authorities and claiming that RL is a fraudulent rip off of RU and not it's own sport. They had a man arrested and locked up in jail over it.

It's low and immoral what the UAE RU authorities have done. Not many people can claim that they have gone to jail for Rugby League, but Sol Mokdad did. And all he did was try and get people to play the game.

Yeah. I do wonder though if the RLIF would have done anything different even with hindsight.

Should I be "Chris Gayle asking a reporter out for a drink" outraged or "Gerrard Baden-Clay downgraded murder charge" outraged?

Tell me how outraged I should feel!!!!

Lets just settle on "Rhonda Burchmore cancelled her matinee performance at the Wyong bowlo" outraged.

Hindsight?

Is hindsight needed to realise that when the UAE RU authorities took legal action, it would have a negative outcome for RL?

The real issue isn't that the UAE RU took legal action, as they have have an obligation to look after their own interests, it's more that the RLIF did nothing at all. The UAE RU made a bunch of false claims like RL does not exist, and nobody defended against that claim to show that RL is a sport.

Erm..

rugbyleaguehub.com understands RLIF chairman Nigel Wood, newly installed CEO David Collier and the NRL are aware of the situation and and are working to explain to the UAE government that rugby league is a sovereign sport, and to secure Mokdad?s freedom.

?Both World Rugby and RLIF recognise that the sports of Rugby Union and Rugby League are led by sovereign International Federations and neither has any jurisdiction over the other sport,? said David Collier, the RLIF chief executive on Sunday.

World Rugby, union?s global rulers, are aware of the situation but unwilling to make an official comment.

RLIF Statement regarding Sol Mokdad

The Rugby League International Federation is pleased to confirm that Mr Sol Mokdad has been released from custody following the withdrawal of charges made by the UAERF (United Arab Emirates Rugby Federation). Mr Mokdad has now departed from the UAE.
Following discussions with GAYSW (General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare), the RLIF is now pursuing all necessary approvals for the appropriate representation of Rugby League in accordance with UAE law and process and consistent with the Constitution and Membership criteria of the Rugby League International Federation. The RLIF is grateful to GAYSW for their review of the position concerning the sport of Rugby League.

But yeah, they were involved. Even the NRL, who apparently don't care about the game outside of the East Coast of Australia, got involved.

For those who aren't aware, Sol Mokdad, whilst in an Emirates prison, had to sign over all authority of RL in the UAE, to the UAE RU. His charges were then dropped and he was released..

Thanks!! Interesting. Great to see the RLIF at work and doing good things. ;-)

You'd think that the Sydney Roosters would have more money than the entire UAE RU and RL bodies will ever make.

I'd love to see them try and lock them up. It could well end up with the UAE RU getting their arses handed to them.

Would only be an issue if they try to play a game rather than just train. There was somewhere else where the British amateur team were due to play a game but union had it blocked and police stopped them taking the field, can't remember where?

Anyone who thinks Union are not still, the #1 enemy are kidding themselves and all the time the rlif is poorly funded, we fail to promote international RL and don't have a clear delineation for the unwashed between the two rugbys it will continue. Wouldn't have been a hard sell I suspect if NRL and sl had offered to play a WCc game there in return for official recognition and support for a local rugby league comp.
