People jump up and down when the Chooks plunder the best players like Teddy and Cronk but little is said about the young kids.

They apply the same principles when getting the young kids into their junior systems, they pay a lot more. In other words they plunder the junior ranks to.

Of course a winning club is a lot more attractive to a kid than a club on struggle street, but at the end of the day money talks. A few years ago West’s had a gun kid, they offered him 10 grand a year just to play in the juniors, Parra offered him 20g,so West’s matched it..along came the Chooks and offered him 80g, so he signed with the Chooks. As it turned out he never kicked on, but that is what your up against.

Anyway they are the bench mark so it a case of, if you can’t beat them join them
This. It was the Peter O’Sullivan way. See a kid, find out what the other clubs are offering and double it.

It depends how you look at it. Some people see a club that buys the bulk of it's juniors from other club. Other look at it this way, the roosters had more players that made their debut for the chooks in their team than the tigers did . Granted the tiges can't recruit for shit but food for thought none the less.

Not sure how you figure that. There's a rather distinctive waterway that splits Forestville from Roseville. Crossing the bridges give you a pretty clear indicator that you're moving from the Northern Beaches to the North Shore. In fact, the distinction between the NB and NS is probably more distinct than any other 2 regions in Sydney. Only 3 roads get you off the beaches, 2 of which are bridges.

They both have North in the name. That's always going to confuse the sort of person who thinks Neutral Bay is further from the City than Watsons Bay.... :p (typical Eastern Suburbs thinking)

As for Belrose and Frenchs Forest.... they're on the "Northern Beaches" but I wouldn't want to park there, get out my deckchair and walk to the nearest beach.

But yes, other than the road to Mona Vale which goes through parkland, all entrances to the Northern Beaches require a bridge cross.

at least the roosters stars are not made up of an over paid busted hack that doesn't put in more than 5 mins in a game and thinks drink driving is ok because he was coming from the "knock out comp" and a halfwit set of English brothers that get paid millions based on dropped ball quotas

looks here like we're a bit upset with the old partners, and embracing the new ones.

Exactly - they talk about bringing up juniors as if a players career starts only when they step onto a field! All those players who debuted with Roosters are not their juniors, they are the cream that Roosters have plundered from other clubs.

However, that’s only part of the story. In order for this strategy to be as successful as it has been, they need to have:
- The ability to identify the best talent and what attributes are likely to translate into first grade footy.
- The coaching staff to develop, enhance and maintain a players’ skill set to prepare them for first grade.
- Pathways for that young talent to follow to get to first grade, and
- The sheer ruthlessness to create cap space when opportunities arrive (Pearce/Nikorima) and the ability to recognise when one of the investments simply wont pay off long term (Hastings/Nikorima).

That, plus (alleged) under the table payments, is the formula to consistent success and the Roosters have nailed it since 2013.

It genuinely burns me that my club failed in all 5 of the areas mentioned above. On the plus side, if any club was going to be that successful at managing their players I’m glad it’s a fake, soulless club like the Roosters that no one really cares about!

yeah, i doubt any of their flegg live within 20kms of henson park, but roosters give them an opportunity and they manage to turn a few of them into little gold nuggets.

penrith and parra have a shitload in their regions and they just can't keep them all. and the best kid at 16 isn't necesarily going to be the best kid at 19, and then again at 22

Indeed - which is why a guy like O’Sullivan, who seems to be able to recognise which attributes will translate to first grade, is worth his weight in gold.

The bottom line a lot of clubs have to rely on producing juniors because they don’t have the pulling power to attract the elite players or even the elite juniors from other clubs. A team like my Tigers could offer a player like Cronk double and he still would say no.

With teams like the Chooks and Bronks, they will offer very good money, plus lots of extras, might be media opportunities, might be post football opportunities, might be work for a partner, tpa’s and of course final football. Might be the odd brown paper bag, but I think there are probably 16 clubs guilty of that.
