No way.

But I'd be pretty annoyed if I was doing the hard work while the backs were raking in all the big bucks.

One big difference is the backs play 80 minutes.

But even more importantly, supply and demand says front rowers just aren't worth as much - the difference between a good one and a great one just isn't that big. On the other hand, the difference between a good back and a great one is massive - great backs can win games single-handedly.

Case in point - how many current Origin and international front rowers starred in this year's finals series? How many of them even played in the finals?

If a club's highest paid player is a prop, then that club is probably shit. Also, while hard work is romanticised in our culture, the fact is anyone can work hard - that's why jobs where you have to work hard generally don't pay that much.

Don't agree that anyone can work hard. 90% of Sydneysiders west of Seven Hills don't work at all.

Besides, the Golden Era team had workmanlike, hard working forwards and the most potent backline of the last 40 years (my bias inserted, but arguably true): I would love to see the Eels as the true entertaining good-guy team once more. Parra used to be everyone's second team and to this day, plenty of people have a soft spot for the Eels.

I wonder if there is a chance that it may in fact be earlier than 2014. Even the Mormon church like money. 10% of a $500k a year contract is good coin and beats door to door sales.

Pretty sure that is why Inu stayed, didn't they say something like "he could do more for the community with his status staying in the game" i.e. He will get paid bucket loads and he is stupid enough to give it to us!!

You know these guys make their own decisions right? The church can't force them to do anything.

Some of you have a Hollywood view of religion. It's really not as dramatic as you think.

These guys are (relatively) important public figures who are both financially and socially independent. Churches (like any institution) might be able to control vulnerable people but there's no way they can make professional athletes do anything they don't want to do.

If you believe they can, then you've been watching too much Today Tonight.

Manly chairman Scott Penn said the Sea Eagles simply could not match the Eels' offer.

He told ,Sportal: 'All of our dialogue with him was very positive and we put our best offer forward.'

'We were aware others clubs were chasing him and I'd imagine it was a very big offer to tempt him away.'

'We are certainly disappointed to lose such a talented player after investing so much in him over the years.'

Oh how I have waited so long to hear those words from a Manly official.
It fills me with happiness.
They now know how we feel.

I really hope Hopoate comes back a superstar. Nothing would be better than seeing those Manly fans cry about it.

Not a great signing, Jamil is a bad egg. I don't think it is appropriate to say what he gets up to, publicly in this forum, but you can PM me to find out.

Good culture that turns players around, we have one of the best records in regards to off-field player behavior.

Lucky for us that Manly have already reached their "bad egg" quota and couldn't find room for him.

I know dirt on one of your high profile players, so don't even start

yeah and if he comes back a superstar, we need to lock him up with a 5 year extension

Some people are criticizing the two year deal but it is obviously worked that way to factor in how well he returns to the NRL, there's little doubt to me that he will receive a lengthy extension if he returns in fine form.
