This is complete garbage.
Unless you actually know how much Hiney is on (Contract wise) can I suggest you make your opinion on who you would replace him for.
We could replace him internally. It's not like that middle back-row spot requires a superstar.
There are two general types of players that are used there - there's the 80 minute worker (Hindmarsh, Fensom, Luck, Johnson) and there's the 60 minute defensive prop (Jeremy Smith, Nate Myles, Matt Prior).
Shane Shackleton or even Justin Poore could do it. Ben Smith could do it. Rory Brien would even go alright. Of all those guys only Brien is definitely still here for 2013.
Please don't judge the great man based on his worth to us in the cap as you CLEARLY don't know what coin he is on. Plus he also get's a discount from the cap being a 1 club veteran.
Fair point, but if he was on peanuts we surely would have heard about it. When all we can do is speculate, we can at least infer what players are worth and what they are likely being paid. My guess is Hindy's on $300k-$350k which is too much. What I reckon he is worth is $200k-$250k, which is still more than the average first grader (about $170k).
The man is a legend of our club and deserves total respect.
He's a legend of the club because of what he's done throughout his career. Don't confuse that with what he's doing for us at the moment.
This discussion is about Nathan Hindmarsh 2012-2013. How good he was isn't how good he is at the moment. How effective he is still likely to be when he comes off contract at the end of 2012 should be judged on its own merits, not clouded by the length and breadth of his career.
It will be nice if Hindy can win a premiership before he retires, but he'll remain a club legend regardless. Anyway, whether he stays at the club beyond 2012 isn't up to me. If the club decides he's worth keeping another year or two then I will be f**king stoked for him.
I trust the judgement of the coaching staff over my own opinion. It's a similar story with Burt - I don't think he's good enough to play wing in first grade. But if Kearney selects him on the wing in round one next year I'll admit I was wrong. It's no big deal. I've been wrong before.
