This is complete garbage.

Unless you actually know how much Hiney is on (Contract wise) can I suggest you make your opinion on who you would replace him for. Please don't judge the great man based on his worth to us in the cap as you CLEARLY don't know what coin he is on. Plus he also get's a discount from the cap being a 1 club veteran.

The man is a legend of our club and deserves total respect.

As for Mason I would take him but only on a heavily incentive based perfomance contract.

That's your gauge?
That's how you judge your footballer's?

No I judge them by how good they were five years ago.

F**K me, you really have no idea.

lol

Queensland could put a broomhandle packing in at lock and still beat NSW.

Yet they chose Ashley Harrison. He also plays on the left edge for Queensland, despite playing in the middle for the Titans, showing versatility and speed that Hindy no longer has.

I tell you this: Hindmarsh could still play origin and do a better job than the "deadshits" (as you put it) in his position at the moment.

I've no doubt he would top the tackle count, like he does for Parra, but in attack he would be a non-factor. Just like at Parra.

I'm sure Hindy will still be a key player for us next year, with his work rate, attitude and leadership. But I'd like to see him run the ball less.

We've got a outside backs now who run the ball well. Every run Hindy takes is one less our outside backs could be tearing out of dummy half.

We could replace him internally. It's not like that middle back-row spot requires a superstar.

There are two general types of players that are used there - there's the 80 minute worker (Hindmarsh, Fensom, Luck, Johnson) and there's the 60 minute defensive prop (Jeremy Smith, Nate Myles, Matt Prior).

Shane Shackleton or even Justin Poore could do it. Ben Smith could do it. Rory Brien would even go alright. Of all those guys only Brien is definitely still here for 2013.

Please don't judge the great man based on his worth to us in the cap as you CLEARLY don't know what coin he is on. Plus he also get's a discount from the cap being a 1 club veteran.

Fair point, but if he was on peanuts we surely would have heard about it. When all we can do is speculate, we can at least infer what players are worth and what they are likely being paid. My guess is Hindy's on $300k-$350k which is too much. What I reckon he is worth is $200k-$250k, which is still more than the average first grader (about $170k).

The man is a legend of our club and deserves total respect.

He's a legend of the club because of what he's done throughout his career. Don't confuse that with what he's doing for us at the moment.

This discussion is about Nathan Hindmarsh 2012-2013. How good he was isn't how good he is at the moment. How effective he is still likely to be when he comes off contract at the end of 2012 should be judged on its own merits, not clouded by the length and breadth of his career.

It will be nice if Hindy can win a premiership before he retires, but he'll remain a club legend regardless. Anyway, whether he stays at the club beyond 2012 isn't up to me. If the club decides he's worth keeping another year or two then I will be f**king stoked for him.

I trust the judgement of the coaching staff over my own opinion. It's a similar story with Burt - I don't think he's good enough to play wing in first grade. But if Kearney selects him on the wing in round one next year I'll admit I was wrong. It's no big deal. I've been wrong before.

It might be "youse a peanut"
Or is that for the plural?!

Interesting fact:

We do have a plural form of 'you' in the English language. 'You' actually is the plural form. The singular form is 'thou', which isn't used any more (except in Shakespeare).

The plural form ('you') was also the formal form (as in so many languages, the formal form of address is the same as the plural form, similar to how the Queen still refers to herself as 'we'). When the singular form ('thou') had come to be seen as far too familiar and vulgar and even somewhat disrespectful, it was mostly dropped from usage except in Scotland and parts of northern England ('thee' is the object/indirect form of 'thou', as in the distinction between 'me' and 'I', whereas 'thy/thine' is the singular form of the possessive 'your').

So there you go. I'm not just a footy nerd; I'm a linguistics nerd too.

Who?
Shaun Fensom?
Jeremy Smith?
Tony Williams?
Ben Creagh?

I wouldn't hesitate at picking Hindy above them any day of the week, and twice on Sundays

Hindy is a talismanic leader
His presence on the field is second to only maybe Lockyer
He demands the respect of his teammates, and the opposition (except ennis - grub)

Obviously you fairies in forumland only look at the stats. Ohh running metres, Ohh hitups. FFS. Watch a game of footy for once and watch his work off the ball.... Watch his positioning. Watch the way he moves on the field. Watch the way he cleans up at the back. OPEN YOUR EYES.

Hindmarsh is a legend. Hindmarsh IS Parramatta. Topic over.

Funny...Same things could be said of Nathan Cayless, yet he wasn't protected as much as Hindy...

For the record I can see both sides to the argument - Hindy is a legend and deserves to end his career his own way on his own terms. But he's not the player he once was, sadly.

Nor could anyone expect him to be. He has made more Rugby League tackles than anyone on this planet.

Sadly he is not on anywhere near the coin he once was either so expectations need to be realistic.

He agree once upon a time he was on too much coin. No club should have a back rower as their highest paid player, however this is not the case now and what value he provides on the field is well and truly covered by the income level at which influences our cap this year and any additional years in my opinion.
