there is depth in numbers then there is depth in quality ... ideally they are both there but it feels like more of the 1st not the 2nd

We need to be patient. Flanno has recruited and preparation of players is being conducted.

Let's see if (like Lomax) Sloan is suitable for a wing slpot.

Lason is an international RU 7s top-of-the-line player. Let's see if he has the makeup to be our new Ben Creagh.

Remember, we have a few juniors who will push for wing selection in 2025.

Shane was bullish on Sloan playing a right wing hybrid role with Gutho (as per interview with Caine and Fletcher a month ago)

im sure that if Sloan can make the right wing happen then he could be a weapon playing in closer when required and also as dangerous as Lomax in the air I suspect

I really liked Sloan at second receiver looping around on the right when attacking the line

Re defence and kick returns ……the right winger doesn’t get kicked to as often by most halves who are right footed - and Suli can take plenty of hit ups from right centre sliding in on the kick return type hit ups

It is no good making excuses or alternative arrangements to cover Sloan's skill shortages. There is plenty of competition for wing spots and so, both wingers need to be selected on merit - the best player for the positon.

I'm confident that Sloan and CT will be our start-of-season wingers.
Obviously, form and skills will determine how long they remain there.
As for Lawson, he needs to get up to speed with playing NRL, so as yet, he is an unknown quantity, but I'm sure Flanno will know the right time to inject him into first grade, given form etc in KOE Cup meets the standard.
The others, Allan, Rava and Feagai are just means to and end, although both Allan and Feagai can be versitile enough to fill in "other" positions. I'm not sure about the young fb we got from the Tigers, he'd need to show a bit more to be even in the conversation at this stage.

No point trying to “hide” Sloan. The fact is that he’ll be tested many a time , on his ownsome, with a line of defenders bent on ragdolling his arse back to last Wednesday just for fun. And at 93kg it’s now or never!
Sloan won't get ragdolled. It may happen once or twice throughout the season but it won't be a norm. His larger frame will help with this and he will be getting trained in how to come in using his speed to generate the power to stop him getting manhandled. He will also be getting taught on how to lower his centre of gravity at the point of impact. No more running into the defensive line with an upright body.

Really hope you are right. Some players can't change their habits.

Sloan certainly has to stay away from the sideline in vulnerable situations, like scooting out of dummy half to open or blind or when returning kicks. But the rules of the game also make it illegal to drag someone out except with momentum. So he has that.

On the other hand, backing your speed against an opponent near the sideline is a matter of judgment and a normal part of wing play. So I wouldn't criticize him for that.

And the upright body. That won't work for him. But if he shows some common sense and surrenders when necessary, he might be okay.

He was already getting past this last year. Compare 2023 to 2024. Some people can’t see the improvements.

but it is true, wingers really need to consider when to go to the outside, and how to get to ground. I am sure he is working on it.

He’s still one of my favourites.

If he’s fit, I think Corey Allan will be first selected on the wing. I’ve never heard Flanno so beat up about an injured player.
it will be an emotional selection but probably deserved.

Unlike others, Corey was carrying on like he’d won the lottery to even get the opportunity to play in the red v.

And at optimum he’s a pretty good player.

Lol Flanno and his cageyness, gotta love it.

Allan may surprise.

I certainly hope that all of our top 17 are selected on merit.

Yes, you could be right but Flanno sees merit in things other players and coaches just don’t see.

Exhibit A the Lomax appointment to the wing.

Some of you hard core might have contemplated the change more seriously from your deeper knowledge base, but most of the game was astonished or making fun of the $850k player decaying on the wing, avoiding involvement until absolutely necessary.

In less than a season he’s the most potent and dangerous flanker in the civilised world.

Xac was surprised more than anyone, but Arthur’s lamb stew was too tempting.

A bit of karma for him you exceeded all expectations.

That extra serving of seasoned roast vegetables always does it.

I was expecting at least a honey trap, with Bea’s niece and her friend April gushing and trying to chat the boofhead up half the night.

Now he’s got Rookie Ryles and his Pluto pups. Training for coach at the stormers is to kick chairs and carry on like a suspended year 9 student for swearing at teachers.

You have to learn to hold your rage, shake a bit, shiver and quiver at the presser after a loss, pretending not to hear the celebrations next door.

Then in the privacy of the shed, tap hard onto the hearts of the players and threaten to pull them out!

If your kid deserves the wooden stake, he gets one too!
