i've never met anyone who hated the steelers.

it was a pleasure to merge with them.
Don't you mean "It was a pleasure to take them over"?

I loved the Steelers too, so many great names and wonderful memories in this thread. I think what I liked so much about them was that they did it mostly with juniors, something we're (finally) working towards at the Cowboys. What a nursery - Langlands, Fulton, Dorahy(?), Jack...pretty sure I'm missing a few prominent ones.

NEIL PICCINELLI IS GOD!

And every man that donned the scarlet jersey became a true legend.
LONG LIVE THE STEELERS!

why did no one notify me of this thread earlier!?!?!?!?

As a 26 season Raiders supporter I always had a soft spot for the Steelers, given that they entered the comp the same year we did.

I must say, I do enjoy the Steelers Heritage Day down at Win each year. Out come all the old jumpers and the pride that the supporters have from their stand alone days is really amazing.
A great footy area, with one of, if not THE best, junior areas in rugby league, with good people that love their footy.

NEIL PICCINELLI. No 1 by a long way.

I watched him play when I was a young bloke and also had the honour of playing with him later in his career. Pincho is a player who could make it in any era. I attended the Steelers 25th aniversery dinner a while back and had a great night with the blokes that I used to watch every weekend. Pincho made the Steelers dream side that night and when Vossy asked Graham Murray who would be the goalkicker in the side everyone yelled out wishart except me and my mates we, yelled for Pincho and Murray agreed. Of all the goalkickers in that side he choose pincho.

I have many funny stories about Neil but the my favorite is when he decided to go on a little bender before a game against the broncos. The steelers were about 1000/1 to win that game so pincho decided that having a little drink before the game wouldn't hurt anyone. Well the coach got wind of Pinchos little drinking/camping expediton in the national park, so he sent one of the trainers down to tell Neil that if he didn't have a good game the next day he will never play for the Steelers ever again.

The next day the steelers came out and beat the broncos and Neil got man of the match. He made 50 or so tackles which i think still stands as a steelers record.

I will also never forget the money he gave up when he left South Sydney to play for the Helensburgh Tigers for a case of beer a week.

A true clubman and in my eyes a legend of the game.

I remember when I first moved down to the South Coast as a 9 year old, every second ad on TV had Rod Wishart in it, lol.

I remember the Steelers, good side in the 90s. Unlucky to miss out on the Grand Final in 1992. They had the likes of McGregor, Wishart, John Simon, Michael Neil, Piccinelli, Schifiliti, Ian Russell, David Riolo, David Walsh, Brett Rodwell, Alan McIndoe

Bob Linder played for them one year, I think it mightve been after or before 1992.

who was that steelers player who got a long suspension for a huge elbow to the face of another player, don't remember who. Anyone know the incident i'm referring to?, i don't have any names, i think it was in the mid to late 90s. I remember it was pretty sickening.

Are you thinking of Martin Marsella (sp??) absolutely hammering Willie Carne??

Masella hammered Willie Carne in 1996. High tackle. Got 8-10 weeks IIRC.
Carne got hammered alot actually.

In 1994 he copped a high tackle from gary larson and also in game 3 of origin 1994 he was drilled with a high tackle from Brad Clyde (Carne was falling)
