Witty wasn't bad last night, I agree with Jess, I wouldn't mind seeing him back himself and run a bit more, also as most of you have said, he needs to try a bit more variety.
He'll get there eventually, he just needs to string a few games together in the one position.
my thoughts exactely, and as much as people will never believe me  , i don't love him cos he's michael witt(although yes, he is a cutie) i love him cos he's witty who takes every play to heart. He wears it right next to the eels emblem on his jersey. All my fav players do/have done similar...
sure Witt has to improve.....he is only 20 and only has a handful of games in first grade with a decent forward pack
but he sure showed, given the opportunity to play at halfback and be the team's general, what he can do.....and there is plenty of improvement in him yet
When he receives the ball he seems to stop running forward. He tends to prop and stop and then pass rather than keep moving forward towards the line before passing.
All the top halfbacks are always going forward. Witty does it sometimes but most times he either stops or moves sideways. This makes him look a little predictable at times.
When you're running to the line with the ball the defence is always in two minds.
Disagree Parraren - his running game is one of best attributes at the moment!
I think the (damn good) Roosters defence gave him no room to move - but against the Warriors he ran the ball very well, getting on the outside and into a gap a couple of times.
Watch for him to keep up his good run game in the next few weeks!
No real need to run the ball when you have such a commanding lead, especially in the wet. Let the forwards go forward as they did all night, and finish the set wih a good 5th tackle option, which in the first half was exceptional.
Last week when we needed a different option he ran the ball quite well coming close to breaking the line on several occassions.
Witty does have a running game and will use it when required.
I thought he ran the ball well against the warriors but he just didnt see enough of it with Thorman hogging al the plays at halfback. I thought he didnt run to the line enough against the Panthers though, particularly in the second half.
It's generally a confidence thing with hafbacks. The more confident they are in their own ability the more willing they are to take the line on. I think Witty is going OK i'd just like to see him take a more DIRECT approach to the line and more often. I think it will come with more confidence, something which seems to be growing in him.
