ok, so as a Parra fan I think I'm a bit of an expert on this topic, after all we did lose 5 Prelims in 10 seasons.
And we did have the capitulation against the Dogs in 98, but we played well for 70 minutes, made some lazy substitutions, lost momentum and never got it back. Really only Paul Cariage can be accused of having a shocker in that one.
In 2005 we lost 29-0 to the Cowboys. That was a weird game where both sides were playing a bit average and once the Cows took a lead we just struggled to get back in to it. It's up there for worst performances in a Prelim.
But tonight took the cake. Have you ever seen a worse performance in a big game??
Knock-ons from taps, balls bouncing off knees into touch, grubber kicks on the third tackle, pushing the pass every time they got anywhere near Melbourne's half, short line-drop outs that don't go the 10 when they are only 10 down with 24 minutes still to play, knock-ons from scrums.
Honestly, it was ABYSMAL. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, it did. I've never witnessed such an abjectly poor performance in a big game.
Sometimes, you credit a team for forcing another team to play bad. But Melbourne didn't even really do that tonight. They just turned up.
I've had to sit through the worst Parra team in 40 years this year and Manly's performance tonight would give any of Parra's performances this year a run for their money when it comes to ill-discipline and basic mistakes.
Horrible.
