One of the worst I saw was Danny Peacock dislocating his hip in the early 1990s. After it happened, he was laying face down with one one knee facing up and one facing down. It looked unbelievably painful.

Not a RL injury but deserves a mention: Shaun Livingston of the LA Clippers doing his knee. Youtube it but you need a strong stomach

Richie Barnett v Wendell Sailor- They had a head clash in a NZ v AUS test match. Barnetts face caved in , and he needed surgery and a metal plate inserted..

Roosters and New Zealand fullback RICHIE BARNETT is expected to be released from Westmead
Hospital today and transferred to a private hospital after recovering well from six hours
of surgery to repair his smashed cheekbones.

BARNETT suffered the injury during Friday night's Anzac Test, where the Kiwis were
humiliated 52-0 by Australia.

Roosters football manager BRIAN CANAVAN has confirmed BARNETT broke his cheekbone in
three places on one side of his face and two on the other during a head clash with Australian
winger WENDELL SAILOR

That is the one that popped into my mind. It looked like he had been hit in the face with a sledge hammer. Sickening.

Well before my time but John Farragher. Cant find any links to it though.

This has to be the winner....broken neck from a scrum collapse in 1978 playing front row for the choclate soldiers and never walked again.

Broken legs, noses big deal...they can still stand up to pee.

Tony Caine didn't break any bones and wasn't even initially out of action for that long, what is everyone on about

I'm old enough to remember John Farragher. That was an absolute shocker. Lee Pomphret's face didn't look too good after being thumped by Bob Cooper as well. That one's bad because it wasn't accidental. Cooper got the boot for 15 months.

Danny Peacock's dislocated hip, Newcastle vs Gold Coast in 1991:

Go to around 2:05 in the video. I know it's in crappy 240p video filmed from the top of the grandstand, but look carefully after Peacock hit the ground....that must hurt like buggery. Wouldn't want to know how that felt like.

I was at that game (Newcastle vs Wests Tigers 2003) and stood nearly parallel to the incident in the last couple of minutes of the game. To this day, I still can't believe Robbie Beckett didn't get sent off, let alone suspended, despite the fact that Beckett clearly went in with excessive force and made contact with the head, as you can see in the middle of this video:

Absolute joke, considering Clint Newton was sent off and rubbed out for 12 matches the following year for a shoulder charge that went wrong and made contact with Ashton Sims' head. Inconsistent judiciary rulings with the NRL...some things never change.

Cameron Ciraldo

Georgie Rose had a pretty bad one in 2007 against Melbourne.

Jody Rudd. His knee collapsed outwards
Jody Rudd? Never seen or heard of him.

Scott Prince's broken leg when he played for the Broncos. Similar to Tony Caine's. You could hear the bone snap on the tv mikes, and then they had to turn them down so you couldn;t hear the poor bugger screaming.

Yep, that was Broncos vs Bulldogs in 2001. I still remember watching the replay of the incident on Ch9. As Prince's leg moved backwards after kicking the ball and his leg hit the Broncos player, you could see Prince's leg bend and snap in slow-mo. That has never been shown since, as Fox edited out the incident when they replayed the (Ch9) game later that night.
