The absolute gong for me goes to a movie which was not strictly sci-fi but more of a drama was "Dante's Peak".

As a person with a chemitry degree, how the f**k does an aluminium boat and propeller start dissolving in a lake considering the metal has an impervious oxide coating resistant to sulphuric acid. And to boot we had granny's legs getting eaten away.

Don't forget the 4WD driving across molten lava with tyres ablaze but somehow reach safety. BAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Dante's Peak was bad, true. But obviously you've never seen Armageddon.

Dante's peak was pretty bad, the way the lava would speed up and slow down depending on how close it was to the car.

After Earth was a joke about Will Smith's kid who never learnt to smile.

Gravity was aptly named - as "Vertigo of the Space Kind".

Volcano rivals Dantes peak for absurdness.
The subway train on fire & man slowly melting into the Lava was hysterical.

Highlander 2.

Get the renegade version of that film you'll enjoy it better:

The Chronicles of Riddick. Classsic example of what happens when a director suddenly gets given a big wad of cash to spend on a sequel with no clear idea of what he's going to make first. Pitch Black was great partly because it was obviously made on limited means and they ended up with a nice tight simple sci-fi horror story (even if it was a bit of an Aliens rip-off). The sequel was just an incoherent attempt at a sci-fi/fantasy epic with Judi Dench looking really embarrassed at being in it. I've actually heard the third movie is better though?

Also Judge Dredd (the one with Stallone). Utter abomination of a movie that completely missed the point of the source material. Luckily the remake was about 5x better on half the budget, shame nobody much went to see it though.

Signs.

Aliens who can be killed by water, come to take over a planet that is >70% water and their big weapon is a tube on their forearm that pumps out poisonous gas... People were scared of these things, why?

One gets locked in a pantry ffs!

Signs started out pretty good and promised a lot of things, I can see what Shyamalan was looking to do.

But as soon as the actual aliens arrived it turned to crap.
At least it was half good unlike all of the Shyamalan movies that followed.

Signs shouldn't have even shown the Aliens. The only scary part was the Brazil video.
As a drama about a family facing death, it's good.
As a thriller about an alien invasion, it's not.
