Ruin what?

Take BLM for example. When the Floyd incident happened it was obvious most people thought it was wrong and it was time that more was done to fix the systemic issues.

Supposedly there are some people associated with the group who are doing more extreme things, thus alienating the more centrist types who had moved at least someway more "left" on the issue.

No doubt there are other examples in the other direction.

Theres the quick insight on the topic.

I don’t think it’s constructive to make any assumption that pedos were once victims themselves.

It seems to me as a question of fact, it is a strictly case by case basis.

To this author, cause and effect, some kind of understandable neat theory, simply has no foundation. And sometimes in the world, we have to make do with the inexplicable. Not everything follows on, try as we might.

Some of the other observations in the article are especially sobering.
The Foreword begins with:

Sexual offending against children is a highly emotive issue.

I think we all can agree on that.

Here is a study if you are interested.

Fair enough I should have posted a link earlier

There's no doubting that this is a complex issue. Your link provides a telling statement:

There is a widespread belief among professionals working in the field that in boys there is a causal link between involvement in sexual activities with an older person and subsequently becoming an adult perpetrator of child sexual abuse. However, there is little empirical research evidence for this belief.

IMO, it's near impossible to come up with a definitive answer, what with the lack of resources available and research. I'm a firm believer in prevention and anything we can learn should be put towards stopping these crimes before they happen. Unfortunately, it's never that simple. Even if we can identify potential child molesters, what do we do with that knowledge?

Until the experts can come up with answers, it seems that the best we can do as a society is provide greater resources and education in the areas where it is needed most.

Yeah that's fair enough

The study itself did dive quite deep and found some pretty compelling evidence of a victim --> perpetrator cycle in males, especially those who were abused by female members of their family.

What the true number is, it's very difficult to say but I think the evidence presented in here at the least points to male perpetrators being over represented as sex abuse victims in their childhood compared to society as a whole. What we do with this information, I don't know but the more information we have can only help with your last sentence.

Just a quick question
Why does a child sex offender know it’s bad to step in front of a speeding bus, yet for some reason not know it’s bad to molest small children?

People whose sexual preference is to be run over by a bus rarely reoffend.

Is it a sexual preference or an illness?
Preferences can be changed with the appropriate treatment.
You have misunderstood my original question. I think your attempt at a response indicates this

Perhaps the distinction is less important than you might give it credit for.

Certainly in the eyes of the victims and the wider community.

The rate of recidivism is too high.

I consider child abusers should be gaoled indefinitely. I’m prepared to force the sale of their entire assets and pay more taxes to protect our kids.

Touch up a kid and you don’t belong with us.

The most brutal and abhorrent of all crimes.

All these sexual and related crimes are sick.
