One of the few reasons I used to try and watch TNA was for Austin Aries, so I'm hyped to see him in WWE/NXT. If only they didn't bring back Beer Money I could just stop paying attention to TNA at all.

It'll be interesting to see the kind of response AJ gets if he debuts in the Rumble.

EDIT: This is the kind of commentary response I expect to AJ's debut.

Nobody understands him, Eele.

I actually think NXT would be a suitable location for Aries. Unfortunately his career never recovered after Bound For Glory 2012 and he's just floated around the main event scene like he's Sheamus or some other talent who hasn't quite clicked with management or the audience.

A change in environment will do him wonders and NXT requires talent with his level of credibility. I suspect it won't be long until things change on NXT, so he'll fit right in.

The only issue with Austin is his size. At 5"9, 92kg he doesn't have the best physique and his work pales in comparison to others. I believe the latter has to do with the environment he works in, as there's no real reason to go "all out", especially in a promotion that's knocking on death's door step.

Admittedly, I hadn't seen much of him before TNA.

Then I heard about this great talent, Austin Aries - so I kept an eye open, and waited for him to wow me.

Now, maybe I'm a hard marker, or maybe I'm blind - but he never offered anything in his TNA work to make me think he was unique.

He's talented, sure - but the level of hype I read regarding Aries before actually watching his work made me think he'd be a lot better than he was.

Tbh I think NXT has guys (or had guys who they have pushed) who are just as good, if not better.

But then, I think I'm in the minority, because I also never got the fuss about AJ Styles, so...

Samoa Joe, though, is a guy I have a lot of time for.

TNA blew two opportunities with that title switch. Aries never was given a chance with his World Title run, as all the effort was put into the chase but their was no follow-up after his win. The other was being able to make a genuine top heel out of Roode by keeping him in the title picture. Anyone coming off the longest World Title run in TNA history you would think would want championship back ASAP, but he slipped out of the picture almost immediately and disappeared back into the midcard.

Corbin/Aries is an obvious direction to go down.

From a kayfabe perspective it makes sense. Corbin is an anti-smark wrestler who is sick and tired of people writing him off because he didn't pay his dues on the independents. As a veteran of that scene, Aries is an obvious target.

Even from a business perspective, it makes sense. Obviously the WWE considers Corbin a long term prospect and while he's still green, he's come a long way over the past 12 months. Putting him in the ring with a guy like Aries should only help his development further.

It also gives Aries plenty of room to move on the card.

Making sense and being compelling television aren't quite the same.

Corbin matches tend to be boring like watching paint dry. I couldn't keep my eyes open during his recent win over Apollo Crews, and his stuff against Joe wasn't particularly enthralling either.

Aries is better equipped to carry him to something better and teach him the ropes, but damned if there aren't about a dozen other Aries match-ups I'd rather see.

Especially since Corbin inevitably goes over.

I don't look far ahead in regards to NXT, unless it's a big thing like Aries here, so I am actually surprised that Corbin didn't win the triple threat match that'll air next week. At least I'm assuming this means he lost that match.

I didn't notice that in the spoilers I read. That could be because it was included in the last lot of tapings.

It was two months worth of episodes and Aries was mentioned at the very end. I just skimmed the rest.
