And that was coming from someone who has never read the comic books. I used to watch the cartoons and that's it so i couldn't care less whetehr or not the characters were true to the comic book. People who whinge about that sort of detail sound like Trekkies.

For me the characters fit, they were interesting as was the story. Well worth a watch IMO.

saw it last night. very very good.

however for any old school fans, you will be disappointed with what they did with deadpool. they kinda wasted him....

there is a bit after the credits... wont spoil it, but if anyone knows the significance can you pm me please?

I believe 'raped' is the term some comic fans are using to describe what was done to Deadpool....

If it's any consolation, I think the plan was to give him his own film.

But Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool. And Ryan Reynolds is God.

Besides, who's better at playing the wise-cracking smart-arse than Reynolds?

Jesus, after all of the negativity, I went in expecting Charlie's Angels 2 or X-Men 3: The Last Stand.

It was good for what it was. I like Wolverine, but he's not really the most compelling character on his lonesome. I loved any scenes with Saber Tooth in them - although I find it a little hard to reconcile the bad-ass, psychopath as played by Schreiber with the mindless idiot in X-Men 1 played by Tyler Mane.

I dug the many cameos, loved seeing Gambit however briefly, and thought Deadpool was absolutely badass in both his brief Ryan Reynolds cameo and his awesome return.

A little bummed that of the three alternate endings, the cinema I went to got the lamest.

One: Wolverine drinking in a bar in Japan (which leads nicely into a second film) and talking to a bar-maid. He's not drinking to forget, he's drinking to remember.

Two: A black coated man stands over the severed head of Deadpool and asks: "What the hell is that thing"? Zoom out to show the man is the real Wade/Deadpool.

Three: The corpse of Deadpool moves to the severed head, picks it up, and it animates - telling the audience to 'shhh'.

I would have preferred ending #2 or ending #3.

I really rate Schreiber as an actor. But I always found his choice as Sabre Tooth a little baffling - sure, he's a great actor. But he's not in my opinion, physically capable of matching the role or 'psychotic' enough to really pull it off.

Jackman, personally, I'm a huge fan of. He has charisma and with his work-out regime I feel he did Wolverine justice.

Then again, I love love both Jackman and Wolverine (my favourite comic character ever, aside from Batman), so I may be biased.

I disagree totally with Steel Dragon as well. I saw it today and thought it was really good, certainly better than the third X-Men movie was. In some ways I can understand the disappointment with certain characters but you have to remember it's a movie, you have 2 hours max to tell a story and this one was centred around Wolverine. It's not Deadpool's movie, or Gambit's, or anyone else's. Really the focus was about Wolverine and his 'origins', and also does a good job of explaining why Stryker is such a bad guy and what he did to Wolverine.

It definitely cemented my feeling that the X-Men is my favourite overall comic-book saga, as there are so many layers to the story. There is the potential for so many more movies to be made. I am hoping for a whole bunch more anyway. Origins of Magneto in particular I would love to see, he is a great character. But as is the case with the X-Men saga he is one of a whole swag of great characters.

Close

Wolverines lover has the power of persuasion, and she tell Stryker at the end to walk until his feet bleed, and then keep walking

I was actually completely the opposite. I thought Jackman was fine, but Schreiber out-acted him by a country mile. Always will, when it comes down to him. And not physically capable? He put on 40kgs of muscle and looking f**king terrifying. I know which of the two I'd rather avoid tangling with :p

either that, or a sequel to the wolverine origins in Japan, or Gambit will get his own film.

Wolverine II is a near certainty unless this one tanks at the box office. Jackman is in love with the character, Hood (the director) has already hinted at it, and it would bring things up nicely to where X-Men started.
