The standard sanction is 2 years, but it is 4 years " unless the Athlete or other Person can prove to the comfortable satisfaction of the hearing panel that he or she did not knowingly commit the anti-doping rule violation" (WADA Code, 2009).

If Xerri admits the violation "promptly" he would not face the additional 2 years*

*Assuming B sample comes back positive.

People complain that the Gold Coast are a constant failure and need to go. Imagine they did all this and took 50 years to win a fkn comp?

The Cronulla Sharks. Rugby league's greatest mistake.

They were brought into the league for negative cynical reasons. Not to "expand" the competition into new areas, nor for the betterment of the game as a whole, but merely to limit the power and reach of the game's dominant club at the time. They should have gone the way of the Sth Qld Crushers.

Soon after the club was in financial strife, appointed an administrator and needed a bailout loan. The league gave them one, but didn't afford the same luxury to other struggling clubs Wests or Newtown.

Later they tried to sell the club to a celebrity quack Dr Jeff Edelstein, without NSRWL approval or advice. It was denied.

What if the drug use has been going longer than the October 2019 shoulder surgery?

NRL360 seemed to surmise that the drug use was in line with the surgery and he's young and etc, but it could have been going on prior to that. Right back to juniors.

How often do these guys actually get tested?

You sound ridiculous, why should he get a light punishment? Every man and his dog knows testosterone is the performance enhancer of choice for athletes, he blatantly cheated knowing the rules and the risks. Are you a Cronulla fan out of interest?

18months is not a light punishment. It’s almost shattering. It’s way worse than you would get for a spear tackle.

Testosterone whether short acting or long acting gives you insane muscle & endurance growth in a short amount of time.
Say for example he made the origin team over some other dude who worked his ass off & is clean only to get beaten by some steroid enhanced player.

4 years is enough. And other players have copped it aswell

4 year ban we will likely never see him in the nrl again.

Who knows - but Sandor Earl is back with the Storm after his suspension, all be it he's had bad luck with injuries since. And Big Dell came back after his 2 year suspension, successfully.

Xerri has got the "advantage" of age on his side, those guys were a fair bit older than him and made it back. I've got no doubt he can do it, but only if he truly wants it.

it is well known that at 19 the frontal lobe of the brain is not fully developed and people make bad decisions at that age.
Based on that info, I can confidently conclude that you are also 19 and the "bad decisions" you make involve getting on this forum and posting the stuff you do...

even taking that into account 4 years is far too long.

It's the WADA code. In order for the NRL to receive government funding they must be compliant with this code and comply with ASADA.

Players are given information on this from juniors.

Punishments are severe, but they are meant to be to attempt to ensure sport is as clean as possible.

Well I know wada takes into account the olympics hence the 4 years

Anyways 2 years+ out of any professional sport is potentially career ending unless you’re a god

God says thanks..

If Wada comes up with 4 years based on the Olympics then the NRL needs to say we aren't in the Olympics so 4 years as the punishment is based on irrelevant considerations. So unless Wada directs their attention to the NRL specifically and the NRLs specific circumstances then they should have a very limited say.

I assume an Olympian can still train privately and so could keep their skills up to a large extent, but an NRL player missing 4 years is totally done regardless of training.

18 months is plenty.

What I've been wondering is, what was going through his head over the course of the summer break and pre-season post the drug test... I wonder if he was shitting himself the whole time and just waiting for what transpired yesterday to happen, or did he think maybe he'd got away with it? Obviously I don't know how these tests work.

Does anyone know if you get something back from ASADA regardless of result? Like, do they flick you a text saying "You're all clear" once you come back negative. Or do they only get in touch if you produce a positive result? You'd have to think it's the latter otherwise he would surely have known something was up when he did a test in November and received nothing the whole time...

Then again, could just be a dumbarse who barely remembers his home address and forgot all about the drug test he did back in November.

lol You know that's the complete opposite to how it works right?

So you think NRL players should be treated differently to other athletes?

We have a situation where there are clearly defined consistent punishments for any athlete/ player that signs up to play under the ASADA code and is found to have taken these supplements.

And now some people want to introduce more grey area to what is an already ridiculously inconsistent NRL decision making process by having them tell ASADA to shove it, we are doing it our own way.
LMAO.

The NRL need more decisions taken out of their hands, if anything.
They certainly don't need more areas of potential inconsistency handed to them.
