We actually looked pretty good in attack before he came on. Sturridge just made us look very good. But every team needs a competent striker to be very good in attack.

Coutinho instantly looks better with Studge back as well. Not that he's been bad this year, Studge just gives him better movement and options. Sterling being able to drop deeper and receive the ball and actually run at defences was great to see when Studge came on as well.

Studge back and Lucas in the team gives me so much more confidence.

sturridge's return actually gives us virtually 2 new strikers as he makes ballo more viable in a 2 upfront formation.

Yeah, assuming that BR wants to play him with Studge. But who knows, in the next EPL game that Sturridge starts, he might opt for the same formation as we saw vs. West Ham, and if they click again, BR may see no reason to also try and plug in Balotelli at the expense of someone else. I'd like to see the Studge/Mario pair ideally tried out in an FA cup game, but a valid point has been raised of resting Sturridge this week against Bolton before the derby.

f**k the false 9 shit off now that Dan's fit. Look at the space Raheem and Coutinho had when a proper striker came on.

And Çan needs to be played as a DM. Absolutely wasted as a RB. But not until Kolo comes back from AFCON.

Yep, agree with all that Sam. Sterling needs to be deeper when getting the ball and actually running at defenders. He, Couts and sturridge have really picked up where they left off last season already. Can looked good when controlling the midfield at the end. His pass for sterling was a peach.

If Couts can add goals to his game then we will have our very own little David silva. Just so good to watch when he's on.

sterling benefits from sturridge being able to act as the fulcrum in a triangle for runners like sterling and markovic to go behind the defence, sturridge might not have been directly involved in the peach ball from can, but that space was created because of him being there and allowing sterling to run behind the defenders rather than be the holding man in the final third

i did, we had nothing except trying to walk the ball into the goal until that sturridge came on

Yeah it was frustrating to watch. Alot of build up play which ended in nothing when we'd spray a miracle pass.

Studge thankfully lifted the attack. You can see Couts and Raheem lift instantly when he's there.

Will be interesting to see how Can develops (even further). Lad is not a bad football player.

Coutinho on form is also a wizard.

I think we started off well, had numerous great chances throughout the game, near-misses that should have been goals, but then our form gradually started to disappear as the game got further into the second half, especially after the penalty. But the red card and Studge sub lifted us again. All in all, we were pretty good. A lot better than how we played before the new year

Wish I could have stayed home to watch this morning's match. 3-2 over Spurs and Ballotelli finally breaks his league goal drought in the process.
