You missed the last line in paragraph two. Not that it means anything. Liverpool weren't exactly the best team going around when I started following them anyway...

Guess I'm in the 20% as I starting following LFC the moment I watched Robbie Fowler as a 10-11 year old.

The fact that I was young enough to think it was Liverpool (even though I'm not from there) in Sydney, as well as the fact Kewell was a player, had a massive part to play.

Jimbo may be right to say that a good number of LFC fans in Australia jumped on the bandwagon in the 80s. But at least they've stayed on it through the barren two decades since.

Chelsea attracts the type of fan who follows a club just for success. They were a Man U fan a decade ago, a Chelsea fan now, and will be a City fan in the coming years.

a bandwagon is for people that hop, liverpool fans don't hop, hence fans from late 70s and 80s still living the dream, chelski's brand is worth shite because it's global fanbase is transient and will jump to city faster than you can say russian oil crisis

Haha see I'm from Liverpool here so that helped along with watching 'God' run out for us in the mid 90's.

Weirdly tho I'm the only LFC fan in my group of mates 90% are Man Utd fans who all went the Giggs/Beckham/fergie/success way.

Geez, you make it sound as if you guys support Preston or Sunderland and have been starved of any success for 50 years. You've still had a tonne of success in the last 25 years.

Liverpool's large support here was built on the back of the success in the 80's (being on TV and having an Australian helps - but not as much as winning), Arsenal in the late 90's, United the last 25 years, its one way brands and support is built. Especially for those without any geographical affiliation. You guys may disagree but our future support will largely built on the success we have now, you only have to see the Chelsea kits floating around junior football clubs on weekends to realise it.

My dad was a Chelsea glory hunter from the 1967 (losing) Cup final.

Agree Haff, a lot more kids running around with Chelsea and City kits these days.

15 years ago when I was a teen there was Liverppol and Man Utd dominance with the odd Zola or Viali Chelsea shirt. Now it's a mix of about 5 Epl Clubs and Barca and Madrid jerseys.

You only need to go into the average sports wear shops like A Mart sports and see what Football strips are available.

Every bogan in australia owns a Liverpool strip an if not, its a ManU strip due to recent success, you really dont have many other choices.

My only real issue is that Jimbo said that LFC have *more* glory hunters here, which is clearly total bullshit. Nearly every single Chelsea fan in this country hopped on after 04. The same thing is happening with City fans now. You would have been really lucky to find one a few years ago, now I've met at least a few in the past year. But City fans are a hell of a lot more bearable.

United and Liverpool still dominate. I remember walking into Rebel at Bondi a few months ago, and the amount of rack space they gave to Liverpool was hard to believe.

You've just generalised as much as Jimbo did. You're discounting the amount of supporters the 97 team drew. Under Hoddle, Gullit and Vialli the football which was played drew a large number of supporters.

And then Chelsea post-04 probably drew 20 times that amount. Doesn't change the fact that Chelsea have a lot more bandwagoners here than we do. It shouldn't even be an argument.

Besides, how many fans did they attract after 04, compared to 97? A huge lot more, that's for sure.

Including myself

Come to think of it, how many post-'04 Chelsea fans are there on the forum? Percentage-wise, I think nick's theory would be rather shaky...

Your argument fails because most people in the forum are very well into adulthood, at least 30 years old. Chelsea fans after 04 generally consist younger people.

You're talking about bandwagoning nick

How is the age of people who do that in any way relevant?

Playing stupid isn't funny Jimbo...

The Chelsea bandwagoners post 04 are mainly a young demographic. The people on LU are mainly an older demographic. Put two and two together, and then you'll figure out why you don't see many post-04 Chelsea glory hunters on LU. It's not that hard.
