Yeah, I don't think any relevant teams were playing a match while he was away. That's what only added fuel to the speculation. Apparently he was talking with some Roma officials.

We've been linked with 2 Roma players recently, Pjanic who we've enquired about before and was told by him, not interested and who would cost a bucketload.

Nainggolan, who has complex 3rd party issues between Roma and Cagliari that make any move difficult apparently.

I can't believe there are some people arguing about whether the Europa League is worth it or not. What a completely stupid, pointless, mind numbing non-argument.

It depends.

What is more achievable - making 4th or winning Europa? Because both now give you the same end result.

I remember when we last won the UEFA cup, was brilliant. Don't know why anyone wouldn't want to add another trophy to our cabinet. Winner get a CL place makes it that much more enticing.

Europa League may give you the same end result as top 4, but it's a hell of a lot better than what it used to achieve for your club. So of course it needs to be taken seriously, it's a second chance at qualifying for the UCL.

Of course, it can depend, but that relates to which club you're talking about. Of course, it wouldn't really be worth the effort for e.g. City, but from a Liverpool perspective, it definitely is.

Would overhauling the likes of Soton and Arse away be easier than beating Sevilla/Inter/Fiorentina etc. over two legs?

We have a large enough squad to focus on both competitions. If we take the EL seriously, it can still be there as a fallback option if the top 4 push fails. We're definitely capable of beating any of those teams over two legs. Winning the EL and FA Cup is a very successful season in my eyes.

Negotiations with Hendo and Raheem have stalled on a contract extension. Both continue to ask for more than the club has offered which was already a big increase on their current contracts.

Can't say it's a surprise. They know the club would prefer paying a higher wage to two reliable players than going into the market and gambling on new signings.

Potential big issue with the penalty.

Neither Hendo nor Dan happy that Mario just took the ball. No congrats from Dan on scoring.

Last thing we need to derail our decent form is inhouse tension.

Gerrard panellist for ITV and he's slammed Balo live on air: "Mario would have seen it on the board that Jordan is taking penalties and he showed him disrespect".

FFS

Not good. Cover it up and do it behind closed doors.

I heard Raheem is asking for around 130k a week and wants a few provisions put into the contract as well.

Relax, I don't think the team will dwell on it, it will all be defused. Sturridge and Suarez had a spat last year when we beat Everton 4-0, and it was all fine after that.

Stevie is a lot better pundit than Clarke, only because Stevie actually said it how it is

The team looked a little tired tonight to be honest. But Balotelli played well when he came on, and the penalty will add to his confidence.

I dunno Nick. They shouldn't dwell on it. But Rodgers has hung Balo out to dry once already this season. Would not surprise me if he's left behind in Liverpool for Sunday. Standards are standards bla bla bla...

Balo has now hit 27/29 penos for club and country.
Henderson is 0/1 all time (PSO miss at Sunderland)

Oh come on Sam, you're getting a bit over the top now! Rodgers is not going to leave Mario out to dry just because of some little on-field spat. That's now how you manage the situation, and Rodgers knows that. Balotelli has finally started to look like he's settling in, and no way is Rodgers going to disrupt that.

It's really not a massive issue. They'll sort it out in the dressing room, and move on. I'll be very surprised if they don't. But expect the media to be all over it. It is Balotelli after all.

Ok so having seen all the reaction:

Henderson talks it down,
Rodgers talks it down,
Balotelli talks it down,
Gerrard blames Balotelli.

i don't blame stevie for doing that, because he's boss. in fact rodger's response to the question of who takes penalties was stevie.

it's all about leadership, and unity under that.

i'm sure in the sheds they'll address mario and anyone else involved correctly, and we'll keep kicking forward. better sooner than later.

Don't know why anyone other than Balo, when he's on the pitch, is taking the penalties anyway. Sam makes a great point, Hendo isn't a penalty taker and Studge isn't as good as Balo either, let Balo bury the penalties and grow the confidence even more.

Thought this morning was a great chance for BR to start with a Hendo/Can midfield duo it instead he opted to play Allen. Allen tries but he's nothing more than a squad player IMO.

time to talk about that is in the sheds when the names get marked up for penalties. can't slate gerrard for making comments public and then justify mario's actions, mario made it public
