Seeing either of them in another jersey would legit break me. Even worse than when Freddy went to the Roosters.

Losing Yeo to HIA is the only concern

That is the best thing with country kids. You don't lose them to the beach

It was Lewie for me; seemed a great professional and clubman and he left at a time where it felt we had lost our way. Everything about it was sad.
I was disappointed when he went, but at the time I could understand that it was for the best for both parties. Freddy I was filthy about because it was a casualty of the Super League war. He was going nowhere if not for that.

Royce Simmons said in his book that Freddy approached him when the Roosters had offered him a large sum of money, which was an astronomical figure by those standards at that period of time, and Royce reluctantly said that he should take it as it would set him up for life and Penrith, despite being on the verge of signing with Super League, were not going to be able to match what the Roosters offered.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Gus wanted him and the Panthers were still a rabble from the death of Ben Alexander. Brandy and MG had already left. Freddy wasn't really fulfilling his potential. If not for Super League I suspect he would have followed Gus when his contract expired. Matt Sing wanted out too at the same time.

What Gus has done for our club has never been without cost.

Fittler said on TV a few years ago he would've stayed but for the super league rift. That's all I've heard on the topic from official sources.

I mostly remember the back and forth with the ARL and SL. My understanding was the threat of not playing for Australia was what got Freddy to align with the ARL. It always struck me as odd considering the only internationals in that time were SL.

I haven't read Royces book, but Goulds book goes into the Freddy saga a bit.

Another bit of triva.......

My ancestors are from the Dorrigo. Dylan Edwards territory. Hence my 'great admiration' for his work in Penrith colours.

Dylan's ancestors and my ancestors came in the same decade of Dorrigo opening up, (which was the 1890's)

I understand that Dylan although being born in Albury, his family went back to Dorrigo at a young age.

Dorrigo in the past has been a great football town. Post the first world war even up till the 1960's rugby league was very strong.

My great Uncle Mick (Harold Stanley) Gater when he came back from WW1 played for dorrigo throughout the 1920's.

Another Great Uncle (Uncle Ern) Ernest Charles Gater was a noted referee during the 1920's also.

In the 1950's Dorrigo won a premiership in 1953 with the Australian player Ned Andrews as Capt Coach of the team.

The dorrigo team won the premiership in 1953. My uncle (Fred South) who was the patron of the team had a photo of this team after winning the trophy hanging in his lounge room until he and his wife Aunty Ivy died.

Sadly in th 1980's league declined in dorrigo, as a result the dorrigo team aligned themselves with the Belligen team (a small village at the base of the dorrigo mountain)

I am so thrilled that Dylan is playing so well at the moment.

I must do some research and find out whether Dylan's forbearers played with my great uncles during the 1920's.

So Yeo would get to around 325 if he plays 6 more seasons uninjured which would take him almost to 33. He’s missed less than 10 games across his 8 year career or 5% of potential games.

Nath has missed approx 15% of potential games. If he played up to 33 with that kind of injury rate he’d get to around 310.

I’d back Cleary to go longer so reckon he’ll end up shading Yeoy.

I remember an interview with Yeo towards the end of his first season/start of second. And they were talking about some other NRL players from Dubbo - Dean Pay, Andrew Ryan etc. And Yeo was super humble "it was an honour to play just 1 NRL game", "I don't think I'm worthy of being compared to them" etc.

And the guy interviewing said something like "I reckon by the time you're done, you'll be more than equal".

It's always stuck with me, because I thought it was so hilarious at the time.
Yeo was just a lanky kid, struggling to cement his spot in our Top 17. Andrew Ryan had 12 Origin, 11 Tests and an NRL Ring. Dean Pay has 12 Origin, 9 Tests and an NRL Ring.

Happy to say he's proved me wrong.
5 Origins, and a Ring so far. Still got a lot of good footy in front of him.
It's a pity that COVID has screwed international footy, that's probably robbed him of a handful of Test matches. Although to be fair, he probably doesn't have enough QLDer in him to crack Mal's squad.

Lack of international football is unfortunate.

If Mal's kangaroo tour went ahead then we would have had a lot of Panthers involved. Just like the 1990 Kangaroos.

Lack of internationals has probably helped keep the guys fresh.

Though we be good to see the guys get the recognition they deserve

JFH is the best prop in the game but has a test cap. Shame others don't

Surely Yeo has an enormous chance of cracking the Australian squad. I would think that his main opponents from NSW would be Cam Murray and Jake T. Who from QLD would challenge him?
