Illawarra will never be in he NRL as a stand alone entity. There is no money in the Illawarra and the Steelers club makes no money. St George is wealthy compared to Illawarra and even they are struggling financially. Heaps of really good juniors coming through the Illawarra ranks though. Easts have moved in. Easts have purchased a Sports and Social club in a very productive (juniors) part of the Illawarra.

Also the current coach, i dont believe will get you the origin side anymore. might be a few lean years broncos. they look good now though.

Didn't smith turn his back on the team because, hey a good coach under Bellamy goes a long way.
