I've just had another look at this on the highlights. Think I can hear Kasey calling "Held, Release" before the put down.
Only heard a fragment of Channel 9 commentary. They might have misread the decision. We'll see if Annesley explains it on Monday.
Well, Annesley's explanation was unsatisfactory and he wasn't adequately questioned about it. Surely as soon as the ref (legitimately) called held the ball was dead so everything after that was irrelevant. How could there possibly be a double movement in that scenario? Why wasn't she simply called back to the mark and told to play the ball?
Which is a double movement. The law applies exactly the same to an upright tackle as one where the ball-carrying arm has reached the ground.I do agree with you but I think the issue was she still tried to promote the ball to the line and got it to the ingoal.
Not sure what you mean here.My question is what would have happened if she was held up whilst trying to promote the ball to the line, another NRL grey area.
Defenders always continue after the call of "Held". It's deemed to be momentum in the tackle. If it's excessive, the ref will penalize. The issue is that the Raiders players continued to pull her to the ground well after the held call.
You're not wrong, though I believe it was bordering on excessive. The momentum had completely stopped, then they dragged her towards the in goal. Yes she promoted the ball, but I am still of the idea that it would have gone pretty close to the line even if she hadn't. I wonder what would have been done then, if the ball hit the line & she hadn't promoted it. Probably still a penalty against us.Defenders always continue after the call of "Held". It's deemed to be momentum in the tackle. If it's excessive, the ref will penalize.
I'd rather everybody focussed on a decisive moment of genuine injustice involving the same player in golden point. Summed up by Matt Thompson's commentary - "It's Berry with the charge down........but it's six more tackles".
Teagan Berry charged down a field-goal attempt. Great effort. Commentator recognized it. But then it's back to one on the tackle count. And the Raiders kick the winner. This is the most grotesquely iniquitous rule in the whole of sport. Good play is punished, poor play rewarded.
Well my words must have got to the girls. Played with more conviction and determination in the second half to win almost on full-time with the score 20-16. Good work girls.Gee it's frustrating watching Dragons footy now. The women are being dominated by the Tigers. Just no fun watching. Both men and women Dragons cannot dominate and get run over. Do our players eat and take stuff to help them build and get muscly or are they on diets? Our players are not big and strong to be able to dominate.
You were saying. !!. They need to play to their strengths which is edges and out wide and run these big woman apcks around as most are not that mobile. They did not last week when it was tight and cost them potentially another winGee it's frustrating watching Dragons footy now. The women are being dominated by the Tigers. Just no fun watching.
