Update on Dragons NRLW Coaching Staff

The Dragons can provide the following update on the club's NRLW coaching structure for the 2025 season.

thats the first thing I thought of when I saw it!

I assume someone yelled at the marketing team to 'make a post', so they made one for the sake of making one.. I assume they have no idea what 2025 looks like.. the part im curious about is they go out of their way to talk about Sowards role in pathways, but then dont mention whether he is sacked from that also.

Soward said on Twitter that he’ll not be at the Dragons next year.
He seems very bitter.

I think there is way more to this story than meets the eye.

Of course we love Sowie for being the pivotal man that brought us the title but, that aside, I really, really hope we keep in a role in the NRL at the Dragons.

Has the right passion for the club, the right amount of honesty and still the hunger for success. I am sure there is some advisory/coaching role he will be well suited to.

With that amount of player turnover it is hard to judge him on the NRLW failure.

But facts are he had to tone down his approach to the team but that maybe common knowledge with a few as Yes was trying to show passion.
There are other football related things that they have not covered and the last statement that we may not find a better coach is far off the mark
Well I can think of 1 of the top of my head. Newcastle's coach of last year Griffiths who is coaching the mens reggies?

Griffiths would have been a good choice but he has signed on to coach the warriors nrlw side for the next 3 years, so that ain't happening.
Not sure who they should/ will target. Maybe someone like Frank Pritchard? I believe he is still in our system, he could have potential.
I would say someone like Talau could be a good fit but I think you keep him where he is. Stanley could also be a left field option but again would rather he stay where he is.

Either her but I think it will be a female. A retired or soon to be retired NRLW player that has played for the club

its a big call, as much as Soward was not the right guy, it has to be the right person for the gig.. its not the NRL but its still very competitive up against clubs with far more money and resourcing...

Plus we have this huge nursery to protect and nurture..

I have a lot of time for Jamie Soward and I think his contribution to the Red V has been immense and I am grateful for what he has done for the club. However his appointment as NRLW coach was a commercial appointment where he was paid to coach a team into a winning position and to facilitate a winning culture.

In 2023 he coached a team that had the 3rd worst defence and finished 7th with a negative for and against and which in 2024 YTD still has the 3th worst defence, is on track to finish 8th or 9th and still has a negative for and against.

Unfortunately Soward has not been able to demonstrate a winning team nor a winning culture, so keeping him and expecting a different outcome is the definition on insanity. There would appear to be little upside in keeping him so the right thing to do is replace him.

I think the Dragons should consider him for a role as a halves coach in the post Hunt NRL era, as he could bring a lot of experience to a younger halves pairing and his experience under Bennet could be harnessed to facilitate confidence and consistency. Plus if we keep Flanno junior a coach who he is not biologically related to would be great. A year or two away from the club might help Soward to forgive.

It's just the kind of witless dying in the ar$e that I was expecting from their male counterparts later on.

How long before Teagan Berry is running around with another club?

From what I have seen of the NRLW is that whenever we have a star player they have to go somewhere else.
When this stops happening, it might be possible to get invested.

Soward simply needed to be sacked as the results the last 2 seasons have been terrible. Great player but seems to not have the same success as a coach.
