There isn't a backrower that holds a candle to Clyde or Price of the modernish era. There were some good ones like Junior and Gal now but those two are head and shoulders above imo. Unless you go with a playmaker style lock I think the other two are clear. J Smith was a good player to watch and tough as nails.

Steve Menzies was one of the best defensive back rowers to play the game. He rarely smashed blokes but he was like a brick wall and would put front rowers on their arse every time. In attack there have been few to rival him. His combination with Lyons put him over the line plenty of times but he continued to score tries regularly for nearly 10 years after Lyons retired, right up to his last few minutes in the NRL (3 tries in that finals series alone IIRC). If Lyons' and Menzies' careers aligned better it's scary to think how many tries he would have scored.

Tough one

1. Tim Brasher - Loved watching him tear it up for the Blues, under rated fullback.

2. Rod Wishart - King of the Gong when I was young, decent guy as well

3. Greg Florimo - Got to be in the side, legend still heavily involved in both Norths and Central Coast Bears bid

4. Chris Lawrence - Like the football smarts he has at centre, pity his form has been down this season

5. Brett Dallas - Fellow ranga, played for the mighty Bears, signed my flag the last match I saw us play in the top grade

6. Brad Fittler (c) - Dat Step. Loved the way he played the game, ran hard, good kicking game, could lift his team mates and could put players on their back. Second best player i've seen.

7. Jason Taylor - Another favourite of mine growing up. Bit soft in big games unfortunately (although bulldogs players breaking his nose in what should've been a send off in 98 didnt help his cause).

8. Petero Civoniceva - Been a top forward for such a long time, gentle giant.

9. Robbie Farah - Like the way he goes about his job, clever, good kicking game

10. Gary Larson - "The Far Side" was another footballer with a great work ethic be it for Norths or for the Maroons

11. Steve Menzies - About the only Manly merkin I always likes, could score a try, quality footballer

12. Adrien Morely - tough as nails

13. Craig Fitzgibbon - workhorse

Bench
14. Greg Bird - not a favourite by any means but love the way he plays footy
15. Hindmarsh - likeable player
16. Gareth Ellis - Very good second rower, dangerous as anything
17. Benji Marshall - excitement whenever he's playing, chuck him into the game when everyone is starting to tire and watch him run rampant.

Billy Moore, Girdler, Johns, Minichiello unfortunate to miss out
