The dying breed who has outscored all your giants for the better part of ten years

Pete, just die. You're too f**king dumb to deserve existence.

Pro sports means players will get physically larger without losing too much speed and agility. Just look at some of the backline players coming up through the under 20s.

I will be surprised if there are too many wingers built like Merritt in 10 to 20 years. Which is a shame and all but that has happened in a lot of pro sports.

Maybe so, but Merritt still outplays anyone you can name at club level, and his ability has nothing to do with his speed or strength - his talent is his ability to be around the ball and read the play and take advantage of it. It's something similar to what Ben Barba and Matt Bowen have. His ability to find tries from nowhere is freakish.

If there was a loose carry in Origin (and there were a few this week), Merritt would probably scoop up the ball and find a try

What on rl live on the PlayStation ? Because that's as close as he is getting to origin. He's 30 and behind more players than just Blake Ferguson.

Their backline is pretty big. Inglis and Hodges are gigantic and Boyd and Tate are taller and heavier than Merritt.
Neither is big at all. You're saying they need wingers that can play like props, having a 3 kgs on Merritt doesn't make you a forward

Please tell me how Merritt would have bettered the NSW performance in that particular game. Or even how Ferguson worsened the NSW performance? That's the only basis on which you can drop a player here. Forgot about stupid NRL tries scored where half of them are probably strolling over from 5 metres out.

"Tell me why Merritt is a great winger --- but you can't count try-scoring."

You know you support a loser team like Raiders when your try scorers (wingers) are being picked on their ability to play like a prop (according to Petey)

Height plays a role they bombed Ferguson heavily do you think his 12cm and 10 kilos he has on Merritt is useful in that situation..

Also as I said Ferguson would walk into the souths side he's better than every player in your backline besides inglis. Souths have great forwards and strong halves with the best player in the world at fullback but your 3/4 line is rubbish

edit

actually he has 13 kilos on Merritt

Ferguson wouldn't have the attitude or defensive capability to make our team. Not at least without a month or two retraining

I'd happily put him in over Beau Champion if he can get his attitude fixed

Well how can you count try-scoring when Ferguson doesn't sit on the wing at the Raiders, Merritt just get more chances to be the man to run and put the ball down with no defence left. You didn't answer my question. You're not telling me why Merritt is a great winger. You're telling me why he would have been better than Ferguson on the wing in Origin 1. The thread is about the Origin 2 side and I want to know why he deserves a spot on the wing.

Are you geniused.

If Merritt was playing under 20s now he would find the step up physically difficult. Keep in mind he is physically at his peak right now he would have been smaller when he first started playing.

I mean seriously how many really small wings are there these days. Jack Wighton who is a footballer in the old style is the same weight as a fully developed Merritt at 19. How can you not see this change in players body types coming through 20s.

He's a try-scoring machine. Just has that innate, freakish talent to score, even when playing in a nothing team.

You know he's a winger, right? Its kind of important they be try-scorers. Merritt unequivocally owns Ferguson in this category.

I can see the change you're talking about.

It doesn't refute the issue --- he has out-scored any giant you want to name.

:lol::lol::lol:

Blake Ferguson is 24 lengths superior to Beau Champion
Blake Ferguson is 28 lengths superior to Dylan Walker
Blake Ferguson is 42 lengths superior to Andrew Everingham
Blake Ferguson is 23 lengths superior to Nathan Merritt
Blake Ferguson is 31 lengths superior to Bryson Godowin

You see the thing about origin is their is a perfect storm of players lifting and refs being crazy lenient. So the defensive line which is already ready to explode like a psycho on a meth binge is allowed to be a little off side.

This means teams are constantly playing with the defensive line practically on them as the ball is cleared from dummy half.

Nsw had limited chances at Queenslands end. Origin tends to be attrition based and is all about the metres. That's what is meant by origin players. I'm sorry if you don't understand rugby league. Merritt can finish off a backline move but so can Ferguson and Ferguson can also help the blues play out of trouble.

Can Merritt do this if no he simply isn't big enough for origin.

Who cares his tries per game ratio isn't that much better than fergos anyway who is primarily a centre.

By your logic, Ben Ross was a better front-rower than Shane Webcke, as he was faster & more athletic, & so would've been better at doing something completely opposite to what his position calls for.

I'm sorry if you don't understand what a wingers job is. You must be flat out dressing yourself in the mornings. Cant-faced dickhead.
