No one is denying the bloke can score tries, but he doesnt suit origin. Origin is a much more defensive game and its a battle for field possession, so your wingers need to be used as metre makers early in the set.

How many sweeping plays ended up going to the wingers in origin 1? The fact is he would have been useless in that game, ineffective coming out of our red zone, and a liability under the high ball.

Again, try scoring is not the be all and end all of attacking football. To say so is to simply say "I have no idea about football".

Merritt defenders make my head hurt. A monkey could score the majority of his tries. In Origin, we need try creators not finishers. Gordon, Dugan, Ferguson, Hayne, Morris's, Jennings all are able to finish tries and create them with space.
