Brad Meyers was in good form last night off the Titans bench. If he can keep it up he'd have to be in the running for QLD bench spot.

Looking through some of the QLD team lists gives me some confidence QLD may retain the title again.

If Hunt gets fullback I'd have Slater on the bench. We're light on bench forwards still. Needs some good mobile second rowers. Inglis probably deserves to be closer to the action but who's going to take the wing spot. Tate maybe.

NSW
Don't care.

Probably a little front rower heavy, but I'm really scratching my head over which QLD backrowers are really deserving of Origin selection. Costigan never really deserved to be there last year imo, Crocker has got to prove he can go 3 rounds without getting himself injured/suspended before I'd pencil him in and Dave Taylor is probably a little too green at this point.

Cronk to take the bench utility role. For a halfback the guy is a super athlete and can probably handle pretty much any position that Berrigan filled for us last series. Slater at fullback won't happen, but I just believe that he's plugged all the leaks that plagued his game when he was chosen a few years back and is pretty much the best fullback in the country at this point.

Tonie Carroll announced earlier that he's given up rep football - which leaves a big hole in the Queensland line-up. There's not many players who can play backrow and in the backs such as Carroll.

Can't agree with Cronk on the bench when you have PJ Marsh available.

How any one can put Hoffman or Mateo over ANTHONY TUPOU on current form is insane.

NSW pack:

8. Bailey
9. Farah
10. White/Douglas
11. Tupou
12. Laffranchi
13. Bird

14. Kidley
15. Gallen
16. Mason
17. O'Meley/Cross

Watmough, Hoffman have lost form, we must move away from Hindmarsh, Ryan & O'Donnell who are one dimensional plodders at Origin, & i'm not sure Mateo is ready.

QLD's pack must be:

Price
Smith
Civoniceva
Thaiday
Parker (if Crocker is injured & out of form)
Johnson

Cronk
Costigan (if fit)
Myles
Hannant

Why would you have Cronk? Thuston will be there all game and Cronk can only play halfback. PJ Marsh would be a better bench utility

PJ Marsh is a monty to get the utility spot on form, and on form Cronk deserves to be nowhere near a Origin side. Those dropping Thurston have rocks in their head as well. Unless injured Thurston and Lockyer will be the halves. As for NSW, would not be surprised to see Wallace at halfback.

It might be a big call to some, giving Cronk a run, but I am sure he is the best option. He combines well with Smith and I see the team running more effectively with him at half.

Carroll's form may not warrant selection but he always produces a tough effort at origin level and takes alot of pressure off Lockyer in defence.

***In reality QLD are probably going to stick with Thurston and this will be their downfall.

Thurston is a very dominate player and needs to run the game or he loses his effectiveness. Murray was very kind last year by sending most of the traffic at Lockyer despite the fact Thurston was controlling the play.

Bellamy is no mug and will send attack towards Thurston all day. He is a liability in defence so this is a good tactic but it will also tier him out. I have grave doubts Thurston can handel this increased workload and still produce the level of play from last series.

Thurston has previously shown an inability to link well with Lockyer and Smith when taking a back seat so I expect a seriouse reduction in the effectivness from the halves this series.
Thurston and Lockyer haven't gelled automatically in the halves because they play totally different types of play at their respective teams.
Both are heavily relied on at first receiver and as a halfback Thurston needs to do this(at the Cows he is relied upon a bit too much however) but Lockyer as a pivot shouldn't have to carry all the pressure.

Therefore you find that the halves during Origin/International struggling for what role they should be doing.
Thurston is unsure to take the load of Lockyer.

Because of the delivery of new recruits to both clubs to relieve the pressure off their stars - This year we will see Thurston take control more and Lockyer relax a bit more.

The only reason this didn't happen with Cronk is because Bird is used to playing a laid back pivot and letting Kimmorely run the show.
The problems you describe would have be apparent with all 3 of the halfbacks in the running for Queensland, because all are heavily involved in their team's plays.
As for their combination with Smith,I haven't seen anything wrong with it:?

Anyway my team;

1.Slater
2.Folau
3.Inglis
4.Hodges
5.Tate
6.Lockyer
7.Thurston
9.Cam Smith

For the backline, have no idea about forwards.

Going on form Prince would be there instead of Thurston as well as Slater instead of Hunt.
Perhaps put Hunt onto the Wing as he did so in the GF....Tate isn't a very good option but who else is there?
Queensland needs an explosive fullback that creates opportunities not one that just catches bombs safely all night with little to no other contribution.

Slater will not be fullback. I'd accept Bowen as a option although after game 3 last year he didn't do much. Possibly a bench spot but I do think Marsh is a better utility.

Personally my backline would be:

1. Hunt
2. Folau
3. Rogers
4. Hodges
5. Inglis (rotate with Hunt during the game)
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston

He made himself availiable at the start of this year. He was unavailable last year as he wanted to ease his way back into the NRL. Rogers is availiable!

Name them, and he is one of the few that can adequately play wing if needed. The one position we are short are wingers.

Yep got to agree.
But if Thurston gets through don't expect Mat to get any ball from the 'speed hump'.

Tat-man Rogers would be an option on the bench as he can play anywhere in the backline.

How about Wendall? Great impact player!!!!

Cronk's form is incredibly bad at the start of the season, and it shows by how one dimensional the storm attack is at the moment. At least Thurston has been trying to get back to his form after injury (He did score a double in Round 1)
