I heard that Berry and TT are both out till rounds 4-7! Season crocked before it starts! Reserve grade gunna be very short. Hard pressed to be repeat for the reserves.

This all serves well to dampen down the expectations. Its needed. The social media been a little too good and starting to raise hopes.

Release I read from Warriors (or was it from a presser with Webster) that he was touch and go for round 1. But he could have been foxing

Webby also said, which I am pleased with, that he's not keen on the six-man bench proposal because it could inhibit the development of those 2 players that don't play - they aren't going to 'share it around'. Those two players may not play for weeks/months on end, unless NSW Cup games line up the day after (not sure if that ever happens)

Pretty sure teams will use it as a blooding exercise more than anything. Good opportunity for the young kids to experience match day process etc.

thats a bit discouraging/negative from Webby to hear that. I would have thought it would have enabled a horses for courses approach for each match up rather than expect the same 1-17 to beat allcomers.

Fair enough bro, I guess I don't see that happening which Webby seemed to allude to. Let's say EIT (I hope not coz he should be in our 17) and TSS, or whoever are the guys who don't play at 18th and 19th for a fair chunk. OK, injuries will happen, but those guys don't play for weeks on end. They lack match fitness (nothing matches actually playing), they don't learn as much, and the NSW Cup side suffers, too, because they lose conceivably their best two players. Or maybe it's a half like Hansen or Cleary, or Boyd, who again lose valuable time on the park

Genuine question, because I don't see that many sides if any go a horses for courses approach. Which horses would suit which courses, that would make it sensible to change a 17?

no idea. its probably never been a thing before because of the bench limit. just thought he would be more open minded about the whole thing. maybe its a hot f**king day and using big boppers might not be the smartest move when you have a lighter fitter pack to exploit the conditions.

who are the centres this season? Berry is gone for now and I would suggest he will never be resilient enough to get through any season. So Pompey and Leiatutua but he is also brittle. My vote is Halasima to centre on the side of his choice and locked down to give him some confidence that's his spot. He is the x factor player to build the backline game plan around

Kayliss Fatialofa should also be in the mix.

Leka Halasima can play there too, though I'd prefer his 2nd row development to continue.

Berry needs to be released.

Word I heard is that Caelys Putoko (?) is the guy the Warriors think is the next gen superstar. 20 year old, age group superstar. Not in the top 30 though, so not this season.

I'm not a fan of Leka to centre. Don't throw defending quick centres into his world, and definitely don't throw the mental load on defending on an edge with the likes of Dallin, AKP etc. Could absolutely handle it with the ball, but he's too good as a 2nd rower for me.

Just have to hope Ali is fit, otherwise geez we're thin. You'd have to think it'd be Capewell or RTS there, there's no other options. CNK, no thanks.

Oh shit, we're back to the discussing the Warriors playing 2nd rowers at centre!!! Not again, I thought those days were over (although TBF Capewell spent a lot of time missing tackles there last year). 😠

It's an oversight that we didn't get another centre in considering how injury prone (and average) Berry is, and how injury prone Ali is. We're at a point where one of this forums most hated players is our number 1 centre, and no one can really argue against that.

Berry = Unreliable and injury prone.
Leiataua = Unreliable and injury prone.
Pompey = Reliable but average and low ceiling.
CNK = Too slow for centres despite being chosen there for the Kiwis.
Capewell = Too slow for centres and getting on.

The second row to centre suggestions in Leka and Kayliss are young mobile and have played there before. They have the durability like Pompey but have a higher ceiling.

I don't hate Pompey he's a good filler for injuries, but we will not win a premiership with a Pompey/CNK centre pairing. It's the less inspiring pair we could field. The speed we have on the wings will suffer and not be utilized properly. I am okay with Pompey in there with someone else with a little X-Factor as Hitro suggested.

01. CNK. (Taine if he wasn't injured)
02. AKP.
03. Leiataua. (Time to get on track with this team and stay injury free or be released with Berry)
04. Fatialofa.
05. RTS.

I think the Pompey hating days are over, are they not? I mean the guy isn't peak Gasnier, but he's solid enough - made even more important by the fact we have absolutely nothing else.

You're right though, we should absolutely have been in the market for a centre. There better be something brewing in the grades. Has Fatialofa played centre or are we just hoping he can cover?

Berry is already a write off and if Ali doesn't have a good year, he's one to make a decision on as well
