I can see JT 's point . Altho Farah can play 80 mins , he does a massive amount of defence , an surely must zap some of his spark around the ruck . A fresh hooker on when oppositions are getting a bit tired as a result of limited interchange can only be a good thing.

I gotta agree - Despite whether Robbie can or cannot play the full 80....Not using Cherrington risks us losing him. Keeping Cherrington must be a priority!

The top 3 rated hookers to come from NYC the last 5 or so years have been Cherrington, McInness and Lichha. To me Cherrington is light years ahead of McInnes and looked better then Lichha.

Losing him due to playing an aging (albeit still good) Farah would be disastrous. There's wraps on Liddle but honestly he doesn't compare to Cherrington. Manaia will potentially be a long term captain of the club and 10 year test player.

Yeah, it already looks like we might get burnt by letting Te Marie Martin leave, they need to make sure we also don't lose Cherrington

You can't keep them all and whilst I agree Martin is promising we have Brooks and Moses on significant contracts and this Papenhuyzen kid (who also played for Junior NSW Origin the last 2 years) in the generation below. He could even get a go in U20's at some later this year. He can play 1 or 6...

"Sydney Roosters? Latrell Mitchell (SG Ball) and Balmain Tigers? Ryan Papenhuyzen (Harold Matthews) won the major junior rep awards from the 2014 season."

But wait on, we forget that they signed Ballin, was he promised anything ?

THE fallout from the Robbie Farah saga is likely to see the NSW Origin hooker spend time in the halves for the Wests Tigers this season.

The NRL club are overflowing with No. 9s, with former Manly hooker and one-time Queensland Origin representative Matt Ballin linking with the Tigers over the off-season.

Farah and Ballin are both 80-minute hookers. With the NRL reducing interchanges to eight in 2016, coach Jason Taylor will have a tough decision to make when Ballin returns from injury in April.

However he says there’s no reason why they both can’t fit into the Tigers plans.

“Robbie has got the ability to play in other positions, particularly in the halves and defend a bit wider from time to time so we will have that up our sleeves,” Taylor told Sky Sports Radio.

“If we have a second hooker on the bench and we lose somebody then we can move Robbie to halves, he can play a bit of five-eighth there for a while as he has done in the past.”

At the time Ballin was brought to the club, it appeared Farah had played his last game for the Tigers.

Told he could consider his options elsewhere and that he risked playing reserve grade if he remained at the club, Farah was considered long odds of starting in first grade for round one.

However both he and Taylor now claim their relationship has mended, and the coach believes he can use the added depth at the club to Farah’s advantage.

“With the way the game moves and how difficult it is to play 80 minutes in the middle of the field, I want Robbie to come back on the field late in the game and help us win a game,” he said.

“I want that as opposed to just be hanging on because he has made 60 tackles and had big guys running at him.”

Ballin is a known workhorse in the middle of the field, regularly chalking up in excess of 50 tackles per match.

Farah’s shift to the halves is unlikely to take effect in the opening months of the season, with Ballin still recovering from knee surgery and unlikely to take to the field before round eight.

So playing chess, we have the ability to move Lawrence to the centres if required during the game, we have Farah moving to 6 or 7. We couldn't carry both Cherrington and Ballin on the bench though. I think that I'd like Ballin just as a backrower and give us 50 tackles a game, a small backrower but I just can't see how he is needed when you have Farah, Cherrington and I guess Halatau in the squad.

I'm confident either Farah or Ballin will go to England after this year. Farah most likely, he spoke about doing it and traveling Europe. Being a huge soccer fan and having guys like Galloway, Lui, Flanagan, Richards etc who he is still good mates with over there will be enticing.

So we have to burn an interchange spot on Ballin because of Taylors ego. Thank goodness we don't have one of the softer packs in the comp.

Ballin is an interesting one isn't he. Injured and if we are honest not a good addition to a position we have a fair bit of depth in.

Vic, I think Farah will head off to the SL for sure.

gordsy, interesting that Taylor in that article does not mention Cherrington. For me, it's JT's job on the line and it doesn't help his cause when the article mentions Payten. So now we have had 1 trial and we have heard of 2 coaches in Cleary and Payten

As for burning 2 bench spots, see above, could he be that stupid? As I said way back on page 1 we have some new guys who no doubt think they are a chance of cracking 1st grade with some good form in the NSW Cup, guys like Aloiai - Parahi - McConnachie [FONT=&quot]for example.

At least Ballin will tackle all game which is more than i can say for Siro or Lovett,he may have limited attacking ability compared to others in the side but if they dont use that ability really what good are they to the side...?

If 2016 is Farah's last year, and if Lawrence is resigned but on a reasonable contract (not the enormous back ended amount he currently has) then we would have close to 1.4 million for 2017...That's a rep level back rower and centre that will completely change our team.

interesting to see what taylor does for round 1. no farah/ballin/halatau. surely manaia cant play 80. personally dont think liddle is ready. wonder if someone like lovett or cassell could fill in 15 mins? or have hunt/drinkwater on the bench to come in as a utility?

Realistically, Taylor should of already had a plan for this scenario. Given that he didn't want Farah here in the first place, he knew Ballin would not be ready for Rd 1 and Halatau was suspended. Interesting to see what he does??

Depends what route of treatment he takes.

Six weeks is calling it pretty close coming back from a meniscus tear, even with intensive rehab. He won't go a full repair or he'll be out for months.

Risky picking Cherrington and Liddle but at leat they are specialist no9s. My mind goes back to the Sheens days when he tried to make a couple of back rowers into a no9 for a week with ugly results.

Dummy half is where it all starts from, I suppose if we employ Taylorball tactics it doesn't really matter who plays no9 but if we are going to play with some flair you need a quality dummy half

We certainly r in some trouble b4 the season has even kicked of.

Liddle isn't ready & due to halatau being out we don't have a stopgap in a position we r best served in re depth.Taylor has obviously been sticking numerous pins into that voodoo doll of Farah !

One can only laugh @ the irony that when everyone is available this is undoubtedly our strongest position.Hopefully cherrington aims up in farah's absence & he's amongst our best each week.

Just gotta get through round 1. Cherrington should be given the number 9 jersey and Halutau can cover hooker from the bench round 2 onwards. Will be interesting to see how many minutes Cherrington can play at NRL level (he's not the biggest boy but he has skills no doubt).

So back on round 1, not really a massive dilemma as the warriors are the warriors. It's a good old fashion try-a-thon we them. Whoever scores more wins
