For all the spastic souths supporters who claim their 'backline' scored the most tries in the comp in 2009, do some homework before you start carrying on.

Out of 'backline' players (1-7 plus bench backs) for the 2009 season:
1) Melbourne scored 84 tries
2) Tigers scored 82 tries
3) Dogs scored 79 tries
4) Parra scored 75 tries
5) Dragons scored 73 tries
6) Broncos scored 72 tries
6) Souths scored 72 tries

Yes souths as a team scored the most tries altogether in the comp, but don't forget you were equal with the Wests Tigers.

Pretty harsh Skeepe

Houston is a quality player, he'd get a run at most clubs. De Gois is good enough to get a run at some clubs too. The rest are write offs. Patterson has talent, but due to off field issues had a poor 09. Taia had a great year last year, and he's a former St Clair Comet, cant go wrong there :D

I give them 6 players that would be sought after on the open market, the rest would get journey man contracts. Simmo included, the old has been is as broken down as my old 86 Ford Laser

Agreed 100% - I would take Taia and De Gois at the Roosters.

Houston would be welcome with open arms too.

This is what I think Brian Smith will select for Round One:

1. Todd CARNEY
2. Sam PERRETT
3. Phil GRAHAM
4. Ryan WILLIAMSON
5. Anthony MINICHIELLO
6. Braith ANASTA (C)
7. Mitchell PEARCE
8. Frank PAUL-NUUSUALA
9. James AUBUSSON
10. Jason RYLES
11. Mitch AUBUSSON
12. Jared WEAREA-HARGREAVES
13. Nate MYLES

14. Lopini PAEA
15. Tom SYMONDS
16. Anthony CHERRINGTON
17. Ben JONES

Lopini Paea is still at the Roosters? He was conspicuous by his absence last season. Was it a bad injury or something?

If he plays, we'll go much better in attack as he is hard to stop. Also good to see Wearea-Hargreaves at the Roosters.

I can't see us setting the World on fire, but at this stage I'll take anywhere above 10th place as a massive improvement. Hell, anywhere above 12th will be a huge improvement!

I'm going with what I expect Henjak to pick.

Honestly, until the trials start I'm keeping a tight lip on what I believe the Top 17 will be.

Second that I know Im biased coz im a kiwi.
But Tagataese should go to another club - with an 80 minute hooker you'd think that Tagatese would be a certainty on the bench.

Ever since he got dropped from storm (when he signed with titans) havent seen much of him in FG.

Masada Iosefa & Lee Te Maari would be another couple of players would dont get utilised. Have playd up a little but have something to offer IMO.

Te Maari imo could become as good as Taia has been for newcastle this year.

Could throw barba in this category. aswell

agreed
wadell if he can handle nrl will be a gun for you guyes
replace logan with thurling

not to sure on carney at wing though???
what other options you guyes got
milne?

Thurling had a very average year last year , he needs to get back to his 08 form.

For the backs Milne is an option but he has been injured for awhile , not sure on his status. J.Thompson can cover centre pushing Vidot to wing, also Low can cover wing and another young centre is james Stuart.

I believe Symonds,James Aubusson and Conn will be lucky to be fit for round 1 and Williamson has a carry over suspension from last year which will prevent him trialling.

1. Todd CARNEY
2. Anthony MINCHIELLO
3. Sam PERRETT

Tagataese was out for an extended period from an injury suffered in the trials last year and only returned prior to the finals.....

No as a team last time I looked forwards scored tries for them in 09. Wing 6, Fa'alogo 5, Pettybourne 6 the list goes on.

Takeout Meritt's 18 and it was very close between backs and forwards tries

Please,

They had four backs score over 10!!!! Merritt, Talanoa, Champion and Simpson.

They're good figures by anyone's standards.........

I think the point is made that their backline is more than capable though.....wouldn't you agree?????? One can hardly say that the "backline" that scores 72 tries in a season (6th over all) is the worst in the league, as some others have suggested.......

And consider the backline that they were equal with, the mighty bronco's backline that was considered one of the best ever assembled........

Yeah, that is weird considering Winterstein is one of Henjak's favourites. Winterstein ranked equal third in the competition in minutes played last season with 2,153 [79.7]
