that's a tough one...

All time, I'll say (in no particular order)
SF Barnes (amazing record)
George Lohmann (even more amazing record)
Malcolm Marshall (fastastic control of pace, swing and just plain mean - outstanding in all conditions)
Shane Warne (just ahead of Murali, obviously a genius, still a question over his performances against India)
Richard Hadlee/Imran Kahn - both amazing cricketers, with superb abilities and often without much in the way of support

Of those I've seen...

Hadlee
Imran
Marshall
Warne
Wasim/Ambrose/Murali/Lillee

Just so hard, and then you think of the ones I haven't listed... could name completely different lists and not be wrong..

At the absolute peak of their powers, the best I saw were Hadlee and Warne - both masters of everything and batsmen knew it...

Next time give us somthing hard PB

In no order

S F Barnes - As JJ said amazing record, was playing Lancashire leagues till he was over 30 and then finally played test cricket.

D K Lillie - Just an out and out champion, and if you add in WSC his record looks even better

S K Warne - Argubly the greatest spinner ever.

M Marshall - Just an out and out champion, the greatest of all the great Windies bowlers.

G Macgrath - Call me biased but just an absolute legend, just pips Hadlee and Imran.

And i left out guys like Ambrose,Spofforth, Lohman,Akram,Murali,Garner,Trueman,Holding and Mick Lewis.

Out of those I've seen:

1. Shane Warne - Best spinner ever
2. Curtley Ambrose - Probably the most intimidating bowler I've seen
3. Wasim Akram - Fantastic swing bowler, revolutionised reverse swing
4. Glenn McGrath - Unbelievably accurate, always backed up his talk
5. Courtney Walsh - Had speed and accuracy, a rare combo

If The Fot is such a legend (and he is) why can't you Aussie gimps spell his name correctly

For the record - it's Dennis Keith Lillee

I'm only going to list the guys I've actually seen play because it's too hard to compare eras with bowling.

So, in no particular order:

Shane Warne (goes without saying)
Malcolm Marshall (an absolute legend)
Wasim Akram (Unplayable at his best)
Richard Hadlee (Made it look easy)
Glenn McGrath (I'm biased but as an Aussie I ALWAYS felt comfortable when he was bowling).

I wouldn't presume to rate blokes I hadn't seen, so these are just the best I've seen....

Wasim Akram
Curtley Ambrose
Courtney Walsh
Waqar Younis
Shane Warne

Walsh is a great bowler, but was never as consistently intimidating as Ambrose, Walsh was a stock bowler with an extra gear when he needed it.

Curtley Ambrose
Wasim Akram
Glenn McGrath
Muttiah Muralitharan
Shane Warne

from what i have seen, but from what i have heard, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Richard Hadlee, Dennis Lillee & Imran Khan.

Glen McGrath
Dennis Lillee
Joel Garner
Michael Holding aka Whispering DEATH !! I know i said i wouldnt rate them, but Michael is easily the greatest ive seen.
Malcolm Marshall ... RIP Malcolm, dying in your 40's is too young. But i REFUSE TO FORGET HOW YOU ALWAYS SLAYED Australia.

Wasim Akram...Could Bowl the same pace off a 10 pace runup or thirty paces. Lethal Swing Bowler.

Malcom Marshall...Loved how he would put the fear of god into the opposition batsman. His mantra " if you get hit, you are not good enough".

Warne...I hate the b4stard, but a true genius of spin bowling and possibly the greatest bowler ever

Paddles...Kiwi bias, but he could make the ball talk. One of the few bowlers to truly terrorise Steve Waugh, and the fact that he held our attack together.

Glenn McGrath... Could provide any kid with a masterclass at any time. The most technically correct, and most accurate and consistant bowler I have ever seen.

:p

here is my real list

Malcom Marshall - Express, accurate, lethal anywhere anytime
Michael Holding - as above
Glen McGrath - line and length, subtle variety enough to get batsman out
Imran Khan - Master of reverse swing, use of the old ball
Wasim Akram - Same as Imran. The best left arm pace bowler there was. .

Honourable mentions

Shaun Pollock
Joel Garner
Curtley Ambrose
Allan Donald
Richard Hadlee
Warne and Murali

I'll only pick blokes I saw play...

Wasim Akram - the swing king
Sir Richard Hadlee - line, length, late movement
Malcolm Marshall - the man was deadly, RIP, great cricketer, sad loss
Glenn McGrath - spot on, top of off stump, unerring
Shane Warne - nothing more needs to be said

Curtly Ambrose was probably next in line, he was phenomenal, I'll never forget that spell of 7-1 at the WACA. He had pace, accuracy, and deadly bounce. Great player.
