You're a better team without Gidley.

This is awkward, because he'd be close to our highest-paid player but it's probably true.

He is a hard worker, not much else. Unfortunately, he is in a key playmaking position.

Obviously we wouldn't be better off if Hilder was the replacement, but if an actual half was trained up to replace Gidley I think it would improve our fluency ten-fold.

Gidley of 08 was quality. Now he hinders the team imo. His only positions are fullback or hooker. He is not a half and the fact that the blues selectors wanted him at halfback, makes me even more convinced that he shouldn't be in the halves.

said it when he got injured. i agree with you. we did play our best games of the year with him in the team, though. not having him in the team doesn't perturb me at all, really.

Disagree.

It is a testament to our team now that we arent a terrible team without Kurt, but I dont agree we are a better team when he isnt there.

Dunno it's a tough one..

He looked great last week and super poor last night.

I think he can come good and teams fear him because he's pretty unpredictable. I don't think he's good at carrying out set plays and doing things with precision when required but he is good at doing things in the moment usually.

not trolling, but offer nothing to support the statement?

Yeh, whatever.

How about look at the stats and we are a much better team with Gidley overall, and about the 50-50 with him in the halves....

2008. 55% with him. 1-3 without him
2009. 55% with him. 2-2 without him
2010. 56% with him. 1-7 without him
2011. 53% with him. 3-4 without him

Bennett has to find a role for him.
He was great at fullback for us, and if Bennett doesn't want him to play fullback he needs to find a role for him that works.
He needs to play for 80 minutes to exploit his fitness.
He needs to do a lot of defence.

He is clearly still playing injured and was very subdued last week

We arnt better off without him, he is still a class player but we arnt f**ked without him either.

Im convinced he can be a good halfback for us if he would just tone down his efforts and play simple footy. He would have to be the best defencive half in the game but he needs to KISS in attack

Stats from previous seasons have jack to do with this season.

He's probably the highest paid player, yet he's not even the best player in his position. Sums it up really.

Are the Knight fans who agree with me also trolls?

I have to be completely honest - If Bennett chose not to resign him last year i would not have been fazed about it at all and i was almost hoping it would eventuate.

He adds a lot on his day - but not 400k a lot and those days are rare. That 400k could buy things we need much more than Gidley who can only list goalkicking as the consistently quality part of his game. A genuine strike centre inside Aku, a rep quality organisational halfback or another prop to match Snowdens efforts.

I hope he gets pushed to a bench utility role sooner, rather than later - either that or he proves me completely wrong and for once in his career puts together a decent season in the halves.

I had always thought we needed a consistent halves pairing to really fire. I think otherwise now. If Mullen can continue to work on his own game regardless of who is around him all is good.
I see Gidley in the halves as taking on a partly different role than that of a traditional half.
Apparently, against the Dogs he really took on a leadership role, had a positive impact on the team and had a good combination going on with Buderus.
I reckon he will do well in the halves and will have a greater visible impact on the game as time goes on and when he recovers from obvious injury issues.
I'm actually a but sus about having anyone else in the halves in case there is a tendancy to take play away from Mullen. I think Mullen needs to do his own thing.

The things Gidley needs to understand is Bennett will not be scared to move him on. If he isn't the half Wayne is needing to run his side then he will be looking at a bench spot potentially cos unless he becomes a dummy half there is not other spot in the side for him. If Boyd was going to be a 5/8 it would have happened already. Mullen is on fire. Why move him.

Well we look at this season then. Easily the worst game we have played was with Gidley missing, at home against the Broncos. Last night we played poor, but not as bad as that game. We were decent without being spectacular against the sharks without him.

And no, they aren't trolling, be cause they offered up explanations, not just statements.

"You're a better team without Gidley... not trolling or joking" Isnt exactly the thread starter of someone being serious, trying to add something to the topic. You know Gidley doesnt have the best reputation, especially on these boards, yet you come into a knights forum and start a thread like that? a topic that has been talked about no end by knights fans themselves.

Its like you have some ground breaking news that Gidley isnt a great half? I could have told you that 6 years ago. But to say our side is better off without him is foolish.

I think Gids offers a lot to the team and we look lost without him; especially against the Broncos we were terrible but then again everyone was terrible.

If he plays halfback and is given three duties - catch, pass and tackle and every now and then put boot to ball we'd do just fine with him there. We only get ourselves into trouble when he thinks he's a playmaker ... he's not.

I'm hoping that Bennett decides to shift Gidley to hooker if and when Bedsy decides to retire. He won't make any changes this season. Gidley's best position is at hooker.

He's a fullback - but not the best the team in the team and doesn't play there.

He's not a five eighth - yet he has to play there cuz Bennett has no idea what to do with his team captain.

He takes up about 400K.

Would you like a 500 word essay on what's wrong with that?

I think bench hooker is his position in the team - the 400k makeshift hooker.

Well if we have a 400k fullback and captain, why does Bennett go out and buy Boyd when it is excess to team needs?

Obviously Bennett has a an idea and a plan. Or else he wouldnt have signed him until 2015.

And he has proved at Origin level, as well as club level, he is more than a makeshift hooker when he has played there. Outperformed both Ennis and Farah who would be on that money.

I think Macavity is on the mark. Lock would be a decent move for him from my view, ducking into hooker every now and then when Bedsy needs a break. Thats if Stig, Smith or Roberts can mature into an NRL 5/8.
