I have been a mad St George supporter basically my whole life, if I was paid what zac has been paid over the last 4 years, I couldn't care where I played, but what concerns him, is not for the Red V, but himself, however been coached by two dud coaches, makes this a very tricky situation, I still think he should be happy to be playing good footy on the wing.
I never liked playing in the Middle, but I had no choice, I was to big to be scoring try after try, Zac should really be careful, he could end up playing with Matt Dufty.

If I was Zac, I’d probably be annoyed that I’m shifted to wing for Birdy. However, if he keeps putting in like this weekend, and the team performs, well he may decide he wants to stay, he may even decide the wing is a good position for him. I like his talent, he competes, if he gets his head focused on the right things the skies the limit.

To me it appears like something has been/is brewing. The situation has not been clearly nipped in the bud by the club nor has Lomax come out and said that he intends to fulfil his contractual obligations. We know that Lomax isn't happy on the wing even though he has been putting in heaps.

I noticed last night when the Fox camera was in the Dragons change room that when Flanno shook Lomax's hand, Lomax didn't appear overjoyed and did not really smile. It was a quick hand shake without any pats on the shoulder by either Lomax or Flanno - just some acknowledgement.

If Flanno gives in to Lomax and puts him back in the centres it would possibly throw out whatever plans Flanno wants to achieve for the team and also any back flip would make Flanno an easy "target" for someone else to moan and try and get his way.

I suppose that if Lomax isn't happy and has signalled that he wants out "unofficially", then the club has to look at other options and alternatives and maybe this Jordan Pataia is the man that could be in the running to replace Lomax. I know from the reports that Flanno has said that Lomax is going nowhere this year but 2025 is a different story.

Time will tell.
I noticed the handshake too DD but to be fair a bit later they were seen in a more casual conversation.

Maybe that has been the usual way Lomax does things so I'm not going to negatively speculate anymore. I'm going to say that we are all a happy Dragons family.

I hope that things with you are not too bad blacksafake and you are tolerating the treatment. Take care and all the best - DD

The story is being written as 2025 at the earliest for Zac to move to another club. However, Flanno has been very clever here. He doesn't say that Zac will get a release for 2025, he says that they aren't even gonna consider a move until then. This is very different to what the media are saying. They are selling it as Zac is gone for season 2025. Flanno knows he can double down and say to Zac, you've signed until 2026 and you'll honour that. It is very similar to what he did with Ben Hunt. Only discuss current season and then we'll chat later about 2025. By all accounts it looks like Ben Hunt will honour the whole contract.

It's been said before, Flanno doesn't lose out in negotiations. Look at his recruitment with us in a terrible recruitment market. He has managed to sign Sele, RFM, Eisunhuth, Leilua, Tupou, Marshke in extremely difficult circumstances where we probably stank a little to prospective players and managers.

Man I love the way Flanno looks Carayannis (?) straight in the eye when he says Zac's under contract so you might get an enquiring call from the NRL. A nice challenge, if you're going to write shit about my club you'll be held to account. Great slap down.

I think it was Chammas, not Carayannis.
Chammas isn't letting up, he's going to wring this for every drop he can get. A lot of media types don't give a stuff about the people/clubs who's lives they use to basically self promote and claw in the dollars for their organizations. It's fkd that we're trying to concentrate on the new season and we have pricks like Chammas harrassing our players and coach. Hopefully it won't distract Flanno and Zac too much but it likely will create some ripples.

On the Jordan Petaia thing, I'm sure Flanno would rather have kept that under wraps but either he threw Chammas a bone or Chammas found out through a third party (possibly a player manager - they love the gossip, helps their cause). I just watched some Petaia highlights, he's good, very good, skills and speed to burn. I could imagine him at centre and Zac on the wing (won't happen, just dreaming out loud) could be better even than the Cooper/BMorris combo.

As for Lomax's on field work, he was definitely given licence to roam like a second fullback. Here's a few screengrabs from just before the first try.

Lomax realises that with Sloan tackled on the 4th, our shape to the left is lacking a fullback. So he immediately reacts.

z1.PNG

He sprints across 30-40m and takes up a fullback position. Not quite in time, but near enough for the defence to be aware of his presence. In the end he's not needed - Sua cuts back in and offloads to DeBelin who fumbles but Eisenhuth picks it up and almost scores.

z2.PNG

He's back on the wing when the attack comes right on tackle 5 and Sloan scores

z3.PNG

This won't show on the stat sheet but it's a great example of not just great hidden effort for his team, but a bit of that cliched 'footy IQ' as well. Great stuff by Lomax.

It just might be a masterstroke by Flanagan too. Centres are typically nailed to their edge of the field, aside from when they're doing yardage runs etc. On the wing Lomax might have more freedom to get around the field and show off his abundant talents.

A very astute observation Victoire.

As alot are alluding to here, this may in part be driven by Lomax's manager or Lomax himself (given he has not come out and denied it for all that it's worth). If he is now seen as a winger by the Dragon's, any future contract he signs I assume would be less dollars (significantly?) than a centre. Didn't the Foxx (an elite winger) go to the Dogs for a reported $500k per season (I could be wrong) while I would think decent centres probably start at that price. He could therefore be missing out on a couple of hundred k per year over 3 to 4 years on his next contract. And heaven forbid his manager gets a lower %.

Now this might be just paper talk about Zac to get clicks. They way I see it is that he is a good solid first grader, nothing more, nothing less. Is he an elite centre, don't think so. We now have an alternate goal kicker in Flanno junior and I am sure Flanno senior is smart enough to not be held to ransom by Lomax and his manager if that is what they are playing at. While Lomax does add to the current squad, by him agitating for a move if that is the case, it is not like we would be dismantling a championship winning side and suddenly we become also rans. Even elite players come and go.
