Without doubt the problem these days are the managers, they are trying to get every cent out of the players & create unrest with their clients despite having existing contracts. Players in the past either did their own deals or had control of their managers. These days managers control their clients who generally can be easily led & get blinded by the dollars on offer. If it continues in this way I am concerned about the longevity of the NRL.
gone are the days when a handshake and a promise were good enough between player and club witch in my time was always more binding than a paper contract.

I just don't understand what Zacs' motivation is here.

If it is to get more involved, touch the ball more, as many have stated, his ability to get more involved in a game is greater on the wing than it is at centre.
If it is money, surely he see's that being an elite winger will likely earn him more money than being an average centre would.
If it is about representative play, it's a no brainer he has a much better chance as a winger than he does as a centre.

It also seems quite evident to me anyway, that he is just outright a better winger than he is a centre. He is more suited to the position. Only thing missing is high level speed really.

We do not want to lose Lomax. He is a competitive beast on the field. He is incredibally fit and strong. He drives the standards in training. He is both young and experienced.
Agree, but there is a limit a club can go to without compromising either the cap or the team, and lets remember Lomax still has 2 years to run on his existing contract. If we give in completely to what Lomax and his manager wants, then what does Su'a do ? or anyone else for that matter. Lets remember here Lomax is not a future immortal nor is he a SOO player. I'm all for the club taking a stance and sticking to it.

Why isn't there any talk about A. J Brimson, He was "demoted" out of a spine position and no media noise whatsoever. Why aren't Parra and the Roosters chasing a disgruntled Brimson. He is a current representative player, works his backside off and quick as anything.
Maybe the media don't get as many clicks when it is a Titans player as opposed to a Dragons player

No one cares about the Titans, would you?

Corey Oates is getting a few stories north of the border also, broncos fans reckon Kevvie it has got it in for him.. the bloke re-signed despite knowing he was going to be playing reserve grade.. he could have easily had a 1st grade position with us if he wanted to stay a 1st grader... but that is a luxury the strong clubs have, spare 1st graders in waiting.

With contracts, if a player asks for a release 2 years out he should be fined simple as that. If he moves club, the club he leaves from should get 25% of his new salary from the new club and it is reduced from the old clubs salary cap and added to the new club. If a manager shops his client around with 2 years to go he should also be de-registered. Simple as that. NRL should investigate this with the player, manager and other clubs to see who instigated this whole shambles with Lomax. If all are found innocent, hang the media out to dry with false accusations. Lomax can claim defamation if all this is untrue. All players should to stop media using players as clickbait by creating bull$hit stories. The NRL should have a tougher stance on contracts and their player managers, that way when teams and players negotiate they take into account that they have to honour the contract 100% or face consequences. Now days players sign a contract knowing that if they don't like it after a year or so can leave mid way which is just taking the pi$$.

It is being reported that Morgan Harper and now Bailey Simmonson are fuming that Parra are looking at Zac to replace one of them especially Morgan who just recently joined. I hope this comes back to bite Parra if that is the case and these guys performances drop because of their stupidity chasing a players with 2 years to go on his contract. I don't blame Morgan or Bailey for feeling the way they do.

All of this is on the managers, they could easily shut things down right at the beginning, but instead if it means more money and for a longer timeframe then all bets are off, including contracts. And as for the NRL investigating player approaches, when was the last time you saw a club hung out to dry for trying to backdoor a player, yes that includes us.

I dont think clubs approaching players is that big an issue (I wish we could do it).. there are heaps of talent being wasted in reserve grade for the paper bag / pub share / jobs after footy / apartments for family clubs... everyone is signed up on these long contracts now.. I would prefer it all be in a draft or some sort of trade system that spreads the talent more equally.. but whatever thats not our reality.

At some point we are going to have the cowboys problem of too many young 2nd rowers and possibly young props.. all hitting at once... who cant all get their development time... but its still a good problem to have, and ideally we could let some go and strengthen other positions we are weak in... thats how it should work anyway.

The NRL registers contracts, right? Presumably the contracts would have to state commissions payable to managers? Would it be possible for the NRL to impose a 'standard' that early transfers of players impose a discount on manager's commissions (1 year early = 25% reduction in commission, 2 years = 50% reduction, 3 years = 75% reduction)? In other words, impose a disincentive for managers playing a chess game with movements of their players between clubs.
