not taking sides here but i have an observation to make

could it be simply that Mr blacktip-reefy gives praise where it's due no matter what colour the duck?

my observation is that the players often referred to are either very good or very bad no matter what part of the pond they are from. So even though it's no sin to base a commentary on ability, it may be more of a sin to twist a commentary to make it racist or biased.

i would point out that if there was bias shown by mr blacktip-reefy why would he be so harsh on Mr Merritt and Mr reick (as a look at old posts suggests)?

BTW Mr Widders is off contract.

I never said any of them were better than the others.
I just said the 3 most naturally talented players were those three. Lockyer is definitely up there. But I've seen peach do stuff, that locky cant. Stuff you can't learn.
& until this day, there had never been a freak like Ewan Mcgrady.
But I had the advantage/disadvantage of playing with & against him in country football, so I would have seen a lot more of him than most.
Maybe Ella was close to Ewans freakish natural ability.

so that is just opinion

you see you would be in the minority of course as none of these players has a meaningful rep career which is the benchmark - indicator if you will - for the games best

I think there have been far more white players in the game for a start. Mr Horrie hastings, Mr john McMartin, mr Stumpy Stevens are 3 whities that come to mind that never had meaningful rep careers but perhaps should of

yeah I can't go along with the Rep selection issue either.
Old saying for many years was harder to get out than in.
Was Wally Lewis the best 5/8th ever?
why then did he miss so many selections over the years? Why did they target him for exclusion at the medical for the Roo tour?
Was Brandy Alexander a good footballer? What about the other halves that played in the same era as Sterling or centres in the same era as Meninga?
When rep selections are based on the best player in that position being selected, then it would be a guide.
Right now selections take place depending on whoe else is picked, the style of the coach, who the selectors are.

Apparently McGoldrick isnt held in that high regard at the club. I would not expect to see him be resigned after his current contract finishes. He may even be let go before then. I find that quite astounding considerng the lack of centers the club as and the improvement he is showing. We dont seem to be going after any outside back at the moment either.

Aboriginals are without question some of the most naturally gifted athletes going around. That's a fact. It's a pity more of these kids don't get the opportunities to play in the NRL. I think that is the aim of Peachey's off field work. How many more players like Peachey, and Campbell are there out there that are lost to the game, because they don't have the necessary support off the field? Even Peachey himself was a shy country kid, who was thinking of going back home.

Something which has nothing to do with being aboriginal or Irish.
It' speople who are able that to make that differentiation, find more in it than there is, that are a worry.
