Need to be some big individual moments from players to get any interest going. For mine its the batsman. Their needs to be a big score from someone in our top order. All of them are capable of playing a long innings.

I think back to 2000 v WI. It was 5-0 and almost 100% one-sided. No Shane Warne who was injured and Curtly Ambrose retired before the series started. And yet we still had a McGrath hattrick, Lara 182 in Adelaide, Steve Waugh had a couple centuries.

Colin Miller had blue hair. I reckon Labs could pull off something like that.
Ricky Ponting wrote in his autobiography that series were the worst quality test matches he ever played in.

No surprises in our X1. Seems passing 50 only 12 times in 44 innings is sufficient to cement your spot in Test cricket these days. Some will say Travis Head averages almost @40. Yes, inflated by not outs obviously. How easily would either in formers Pete Handscomb or Matt Renshaw slot into #5.

David Warner and Steve Smith and allrounder Cameron Green have also not played first-class cricket since July.
That is three of our top six. Not bothered all that much re Warner as he plays same in both formats. But the other two are specialist red ball batsmen and need to be playing that format regularly.

The batsmen may be in for a wild ride on this track. Betting local speedsters Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris are giving their left ball to bowl on it. Pity neither playing.

It will have plenty of pace but won't be that green lol, they just haven't cut it. This story gets a run every test match.

Yep... And I'm going to miss Chappelli's annual advice to touring teams in commentary saying "the thing about Perth wickets is you can't get carried away with the bounce. Too many blokes get too excited and end bowling far too short.... John Snow always knew you had to bowl your normal length here. Helluva bloke to have a beer with in the dressing room after the day's play too..."

Travis cant play overseas.

I suppose they are keeping him based off his Ashes series last year.

But he wouldnt want to have a below average summer.

I wouldnt be playing him in India or England next year.

Our skipper has also admitted that he can not read a pitch. So when he wins a toss who does he thank for providing the pitch info. A captain that is unsure of pitch conditions all sounds a bit embarrassing.

I have copped flack before from the Travis Head devotees over posting this. But one of his tons was against a depleted Pom attack as both Robinson and Stokes were off the field for a good part of it while their tweakers Leach and Root were bowling nudies. So Travis lit the fuse and changed mode to white ball..his forte. From memory his other ton was at a run a ball which tells us batting conditions were easy again. Cam Green also scored a rather quickfire 80 if memory serves and we know he gradually builds an innings like all good Test batsman.

How hard is it to wait for the first test of our summer. I get the jitters every year. Have done so since my very first test match back in '74/5 at the SCG when dad treated my older brother and I a day at the famous ground to watch my hero DK and Thommo who had decimated the Poms in the three previous matches. This game was vitally important too as a win sealed the series. We did win it by 171 runs. And I even picked up DK's autograph. So my first Test match was one to remember forever.

The late 80's and early 90's when the Windies were touring Ng, my god, that week leading up to Day 1 of the first test at the Gabbas always felt excruciatingly long... In those days the First Test would start on a Friday..... Who'd a thunk it??

I wouldn’t make too much of that

I’d be playing clueless to the media as well(and more importantly give nothing to the opposition) . Sometimes it good not to disclose your every thought

Paddy has been around long enough to know what most decks will be doing

It never gets easier, the first test jitters. I can remember my first experience in 1922 Australia v England, my Uncle Maggots took myself and my cousin Bobby Joe to the old Brisbane Exhibition Ground. Game wasn't being played there, he just wanted to give me and Bobbie Joe a flogging for toilet papering his penny farthing. Pool old Bobby Joe was buried pretty deep there 😪
