“Under no circumstances do we believe today’s speculation around the future of the Western Force to be true,” the statement read.

Hinges on the Yaapies. I can see them agreeing to cut the Free State and go down to 16. Port Elizabeth to remain. Adios Farce.

It will take the NRL 5-10 years to expand. And going off some of the other issues in the game I think it's more likely u will see a relocation to Perth rather than a new team.

The muppets at HQ should be all over this and working with NRLWA should the Force get the axe to bring in a Perth team and capitalise on the (small) void left but they're too busy have lattes and begging not to be voted off the ARLC gravy train

It shouldn't make a difference what the Force are/aren't doing, expansion to Perth should be a no brainer. At this stage it looks like Force rely mostly on diehards and you have to wonder how many diehard RU fans would watch NRL regularly. I think there would be more than enough RL fans and floating supporters to make Perth viable without having to pick through the bones of the Western Force, any who want to come will.

At the bare minimum they should be looking at the SG Ball operation and looking at how they can expand that buy poaching all of the force juniors and looking at whatever u20s format will be in place for the state leagues so that whenever there is finally someone with some vision at HQ they junior base is already in place.

Perth Bears?

It should happen. It won't but it should. South Melbourne have done pretty well in Sydney.
They should give them a licence with a decent length but on with expectations tied to a renewal of said licence, nothing excessive mostly that they're not a burden on the NRL.
If it's a total flop (which is unlikely) it would be easy to up root and move somewhere else.

If western force are to go the Nrl would be silly to let this opportunity go.

They could announce the introduction of the the Warl team in 2020 and use the Perth origin 2019 game to help promote it.

Labour announced today they are reviewing the Libs "sponsorship" of the Force. The decision could be made for the ARU if they pull the $1.5million "sponsorship".

At the very least a bigger fund for the NRLWA to take the best Force Under 18's into the Pirates system and a bigger push to snaffle their jnr players in the posh suburbs would be a start.

If they were ever going to have a ninth game to sell for the next TV deal then 2020 is when they should be planning for expansion. Set aside $50million for 2020/21 seasons to pay for the new clubs and recoup the money in the next TV deal.

Whatever team/s the nrl introduce into the comp shouldn't put a strain on the Nrl. Future clubs know the club funding amount for the current tv deal and should have funding proposals that at least break even. (Self sustainable from the get go) The 9th game can be on sold to nine (sat game) and also shown on the new nrl digital channel.

The ARU have confirmed there will only be 4 Australian teams moving forward and the team getting the axe WON'T be the Brumbies.

It will be the Rebels or Force with a decision likely within 72 hours.

Given it won't be the brumbies, I can't see this impacting the NRL in any way.

It won't but it should. Perth continues to cry out for a team. We now have an origin being played there in a couple of years and now the force getting kicked out. The NRL is more cashed up then ever and with the grant to clubs going up significantly none are in danger of going belly up. It's the perfect time for the NRL to expand but it's hard to see it actually happening.

The fact they basically admit they can't expand the comp and make clubs sustaibable should be enough to see every one of them sacked immediately.

The fact they are actually failing at both means they should be shot or something.
