Penrith Panthers to reward Mitch Rein with a contract extension
AT the start of the season Mitch Rein was languishing in reserve grade at Penrith and unsure about his future.
Now on the back of several standout performances in the absence of injured hooker Peter Wallace, Rein has reinvigorated his NRL career.
The former St George Illawarra hooker has excelled in his three top-grade matches with Wallace sidelined, putting to bed speculation he could link with a rival club before June 30.
The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the Panthers are now planning to upgrade Rein’s contract beyond his current deal which expires at the end of 2018.
“Mitch is in our long-term plans,” Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher said. “He has been outstanding for us in the last few games he has played with us.
“We’ve also lucky that Peter Wallace can cover the halves if we have problems, so with (Mitch) as well it gives us a terrific backup. He has been patient and now his turn has come and he has proven why we purchased him because he is a good player.”

A bit premature isn't it? Still under contract till 2018.
