Who knew?

Well really, who didn't know... I think they all knew ... another sacrifice to the gods of self preservation.

Assistant coach Jason Demetriou plays key role in Broncos’ NRL title charge

LAST year it was the football whisperer. Now Wayne Bennett has added another secret weapon to his football department that he refuses to talk about.

Assistant coach Jason Demetriou has emerged as the key man in transforming the Broncos into the NRL’s toughest team to defend.

Demetriou has been the pivotal addition to Bennett’s arsenal of support staff this season and Brisbane are reaping the rewards.

The Broncos are in second spot on the NRL ladder with two weeks to go in the regular season and have scored the most points (543) in 2017.

They have managed this despite having a pack of front-row forwards many believed could not challenge the likes of heavyweights Melbourne, Cronulla and Sydney.

Sums up exactly what's wrong with our club.
We invited Demetriou to join us and gave him a challenge to coach the Cutters.
This after his success at the same level in Queensland.
At this stage you would be forgiven for thinking that someone in our club actually had some foresight and that maybe Demetriou might bring something positive to the table.
Lo and behold, he not only accepted the challenge but smashed all expectations by bringing home a reserve grade premiership and an interstate championship.
FG coaching position opens up and all logic told us that even though he was a rookie, he really knew what he was doing as a coach.
Add to that the fact that he supported an attractive brand of football and had some real tactical smarts about him.
He was an obvious candidate for the FG gig right?
Instead he was overlooked for McGregor whose CV did not even come close to Demetriou's.
In fact it was barely reserve grade standard.
Bottom line was he got fed up being dicked around and grabbed the chance to continue his career under Bennett.
Do you blame him?
He's now doing wonders for the Broncos and will become a top line FG coach in the not too distant future.
Just remember that Bennett got rid of McGregor as soon as he arrived at St. George.
I know whose opinion and judgement I would respect when assessing coaching talent.
Huge mistake and lost opportunity to advance.

Well said Dennis and a complete stuff up & missed opportunity by Dragons management. JD was an outsider and a complete threat to the Boys Club pecking order. He was under utilised by McWreckor and a target. Trouble is he was very successful and had form....something that Dragons management do not consider in end of season bullshit reviews and their lack of accountability. Piss poor decision making again that will come back and bite them on the arse!

Remember back to round 23 last year.
We had struggled to score more than 1.5 tries a game all year, then at Kogarah came out and beat Cronulla 32-12.
We all wondered "where did that come from" until it was revealed JD had coached the team all week because McGregor was out with his sick mother.

Then the next week, with McGregor back in charge we got pumped 42-6 by the Roosters.

I did think at the time that may have sent a message to the board, and it did, unfortunatly the message was "we better get rid of that JD character because he's making Mary look bad"

Well said Dennis Pap and totally agree about Demitriou. He more than proved himself to take over and Mary more than proved himself to get the sack in 2016. Obviously when they look at the yearly review, results were not taken into account just who can spin the most dribble and Mary won that.

As for Bennett he not only got rid of Mary because he thought he was no good but also JMoz. He also recommended Price and got rid of Ash Taylor at the Bronc's. His judgement is not as good as it seems mate. Has did not leave Saints and Knights in a good position when he left. The Broncos as well actually.

Bit harsh with the ash Taylor thing.Bennet said he was ready for first grade & did not want to hold him back so he suggested he take the Titans offer

The St George recent history (30 years) shows that every time we bring an ex player in as coach it ends in tears. Conversely, every time we bring an external coach (not one of the boys), we are successful (grand finalists/premiers). Does Mr Johnston care? Forget Doust, he as no idea. What the f*ck was Johnston thinking when he gave Mary 2 more years??

Henry was doing a good job with the Titans , until Hollywood Hayne arrived on the scene. Undoubtedly Hayne's initial contribution to his new team was excellent , however this year the fans have seen only a shadow of what he once was .

I am not taking sides , as nobody outside the club actually knows the facts of this situation . There is one thing that is quite obvious , for a $1mill. + , Hayne has not provided value for his dollars .
