Isn't rugby league the national sport of PNG? If it isn't a sport then what is the national sport of PNG.....it couldn't be rugby league.....

It's pretty simple.
There's a criteria. Does Rugby League fulfill the criteria? If yes, then something is amiss and there should be more made of this.
If not (have any of you read it? it's quite detailed) then maybe the sport should concentrate on fulfilling some basic standards of governance and player numbers.

And yes it honestly wouldn't surprise me if f**king pole dancing has us covered on participants, nations, and governance.

I appreciate that someone has to be devil's advocate on here, but seriously, this is a disgrace and far worse than any of the rejections we copped in the past. Why? Because Sport Accord have just created the 'observer' level of membership, which as they say on their website: The Observer status has been designed as a first step in a clear pathway towards full GAISF membership. Observers will be accompanied by GAISF in their development towards fulfilment of all criteria required for membership, such as preparing them for becoming WADA compliant, assisting them in increasing their members in various countries across the globe and receiving the required recognitions by National Olympic Committees or by the highest national sports authorities.

It's getting harder and harder for them to justify their continued shunning of our sport and it's interesting that they never give any specific details on why the application was unsuccessful.

Absolutely agree. It’s a disgraceful stance from this 'Sports Accord' organisation! In this day and age such biggotry is not sportsmanlike, fair or decent. It can be likened to apartheid like treatment in sporting circles.

Where's the article about rugby league being refused recognition in the internationally influential Sports Accord' organisation! ? This stops rugby league in so many ways! It's being used as the reason for governments not funding rugby league! This should be highlighted as an injustice coming into this rugby league world cup. It may open up an awareness of what has been happening behind the scenes against rugby league growth.

It will be interesting to see what Collier has to say in the coming days

Sure does. This stops our access to government funding in each individual country. Also stops us pushing nines forward as a sport ultimately with the goal of the Olympics, now union does not want us enjoying that privilege. How another sport can continue to have soooo much power over another beggars belief.

Having looked at other sports' websites+member country lists on the accepted list, what is most likely happening is union is holding Sports Accord to task, getting them to very strictly apply the criteria to league, whereas for other sports the crietria applied has been more lax.

There is probably very little anyone except Collier can do about this except whinge. It is just union working the network. The same one that got 7s in the Olympics.

You'll be hung for that comment on here.....
The reality is League is SERIOUSLY played in 2 Nations, both of which have 1 guest team from a neighbour......when Toronto arrive in 12 months, that'll be 3 guests but one with no actual players from that nation....that is not an international or Global sport, it's on par with "dancing with the celebrity stars who've got talent and x factot but get me out of here" but far less poular!

It doesn't matter where you think it's SERIOUSLY played, professional players and competitions has absolutely nothing to do with the topic

The Changing Man is the same David Moore(a man of many aliases) that pops up bagging rugby league, whenever.HIs views are about as reliable as a used car salesman.
The comment he made here ,supports the view lying gets you caught out.He completely ignores the facts, and has zero idea of what is required to gain recognition, adn what has been done in order to get it.
Countries/Govts support the code, meaning they recognise it is played in their lands.
I can understand union not wanting rl to get recognition's it will open up better opportunities for sponsorship and growth in other countries.

The point was well made that " being seriously played" has zero to do with Sport Accord .It gets down to the number of countries actually playing the sport ,and the clear code distinction that exists between union and league.

This should be frontline news in Australia? Where's the coverage? This is exactly the evidence repressing this great code is being confronted with! It's astounding that this is not being seen as unfair and completely unsportsmanlike! Have a look at the sports that have gained acceptance yet rugby league cannot! It stinks!

What is this "world rugby league" it's the first I have heard of it?

Bunch of Greeks and Italians who were booted out by the RLIF so made a shitty breakaway for a few Union clubs to run around in.

http://www.worldrugbyleague.org/

Complete joke of an organisation but they claim to have submitted to SportAccord which could very well be f**king us over

Any excuse will do to stop rugby league gaining its rightful place in world sport. This is disgraceful stuff reeking of bigotry! It shows what the bad guys can do when having power and influence!
