What Movies Have You Seen III

The Captive - 7/10. Another one with a strangely low IMDB score (5.9); this is an unsettling and dreary child abduction drama focused on the realistic, slow-burning frustration taking place over years. What works is the decision to go non-linear, so you immediately know the obvious answer and are instead focused on character reactions rather than waiting for a Jason Statham to go and kick the doors down. The part that hits home is that this sort of stuff exists out there and can happen so easily.

Similar to Prisoners in a few ways.

Performances are solid, wisely none of the cast tries to hog the limelight. Only minor complaints are various little pandora boxes get opened and never looked at again, and the ending seems slightly safe and neat.

I get what you mean about how it’s probably more realistic but I found it kinda boring. Didn’t do much for me at all

There’s a new Netflix original that looks good. ‘Annihilation’ with Natalie Portman, anyone watched it?

Yeah I have, I think I gave it a 7.5 when I reviewed it here.

Being a big fan of the genre and the premise I had lofty expectations; it's certainly good and worth a watch, maybe even a repeat watch, but personally I felt it was missing something to make it truly great.

Yeah I guess it's one of those movies that either hooks you in or doesn't.

For example I glazed over some of the highly-rated Scorsese flicks, for no obvious reason, despite how brilliantly it was shot or acted.

Infinity War - A wealth of super heroes galavanting and prancing about. Enjoyable film. 7.5/10

Game Night - Funny film with lots of laughs. Worth a watch if you want some mindless comedy. 7/10

Black Panther 7/10

Worst part of the movie was the costumed action scences, cgi was not up to scratch with very bland set pieces especially the last fight with Killmonger. Winter Soldier still number one.

Game Night 7/10

Jason Bateman finally looks like he might be ageing.

Micheal J Fox, the original teen wolf rang me, and told you to apologise.

Of course Bateman is aging - he's been around since forever :p

I'm still waiting for Tom Cruise to finally act his age. Risky Business was over 35 years ago. Top Gun was 32 years ago! But yet he will probably star in the next 21 jump street reboot.

I don't even know what age group these guys are meant to play in their movies anymore. There's like a generic 30 to 55 thing been going on for a long time in Hollywood.

And Kurt Russell flashbacks in GoG2 just threw me entirely. He's 67! But if Sharon Stone makes a film looking like she did in Total Recall - not all bad. I'd settle for Casino. Oh what the heck - Fading Gigolo supplied what I wanted anyway.

True. Always banging some hot 20 something year old his movies. And probably in real life.

Thats pretty much it right. Marvel laughing all the way to the bank on these movies.

A film that really explores men issues especially about consumerism and what it is to be masculine, in this feminized world, This a classic movie with classic quotes one that stood out for me was this quote "A generation of men raised by women. I’m wondering if another woman is the answer we really need." Anyway a great watch people should take a chance and watch it.

Hehe, exceptions to "Black don't crack"?

Freeman yes, but he made the big time pretty old. Driving Miss Daisy was 1989 and he was 52. The film encompasses decades and starts with him playing a 60 year old and sees him play an 85 year old by the end.

Then he really breakthroughs in 1994 with Shawshank Redemption. And a similar pattern is repeated. Plenty of talcum powder back then I suspect. And then being typecast for old, suited him getting closer to 60.

Samuel L - I disagree. If anything I would put him in the generic young category. He was an usher at Martin Luther King's funeral - is 69 years of age, and in King Kong, was still running around playing field soldier. He was running around with the Rock in The Other Guys, and was running around in the field in one of the recent Marvel films, a Captain America one I think. He's not really do these roles presented in a Charles Bronson or Anthony Hopkins (post Hannibal films) elder gentleman type manner. Yet ironically, his big breakthrough was Pulp Fiction when he was about 46.
