Thanks for the link Romeo, great viewing! Some great tries especially those at 26min, 52.15min, 1hr.16min.45 and 1hr.23min.55.

There's some good athletes in the Hurricanes side and once they learn the nuances of the game of Rugby League, there's going to be some serious talent come out of Jamaica in the future.

no probs...Please share some of the nuances of rugby league that they need to learn...

The nuances of the game that players learn by playing years of rugby league, skills that become second nature like the ability of drawing a man in attack, the art of straightening up the attack, running good lines in attack, proper defence technique, etc, etc. My comment was not intended to offend the players.

Teaching lines to run and teaching line speed in defense are the next logical steps for most developing nations, including the usa.

One thing that frustrates me watching USA domestic matches is the amount of dummy half runs.

Valid observation. Based on what I know and see, I'd say its a function of play collapsing for a second and the dummy half just trying to make something happen. One thing I have difficulty in getting through to union converts is the fact that we only need to complete the set. They seem to want the big runs. They are nice, but not always necessary. Once they get that concept, things start falling in line.

This is exactly the problem I have teaching oztag to union stalwarts - the endless need to score of every play. We rarely get to the 4th tag let alone a full set. If you have any tips for teaching this concept I'm all ears because I have told them so many times but it just doesn't sink in.

A lap of the field for every tag they don't get out of a set if They are making DH runs.

They will learn soon enough if you can play a full game of 13s, even 9s. They will be so exhausted playing defense the whole time it should sink in quick.

What Danny said, broken plays/confusion leads to a higher number of dummy half runs than one would like. No doubt. I'll also throw poor marker play into the mix. A failure to understand how to defend the ruck area often leads to easy yards/meters up the middle, especially if there's one marker, or they're not square, or they're looking the wrong way, or there's a union guy playing his first league game and he's looking to ruck someone. Historically fitness has been an issue as well for some teams, especially later in games. If the defence is half way back and facing their own posts when the ball is played why wouldn't you run it?

The comment was taken in a positive manner. We are always keen to improve our game. We do teach lines to our elite players (in/out),. For the Pioneers game, the focus was mostly offence, I doubt they did any serious line speed work and it showed in the game.

At the Junior level these things are not stressed as speed usually is promoted vs structure per say. We do struggle with getting adult learners of the game as well, Union techniques and mentally was a major challenge in the past.

Also, I find that many of our players though taught the correct technique at the National training or Hurricanes, revert to old habits because they are not stressed at their club level. All a work in progress and we always welcome feedback.

Dummy half runs are the safe plays for us. We toss a little misdirection in there but we use them a ton when we are deep in our own territory. Honestly some of our better athletes are still fairly new to the game and aren't the best passers, so we want to get them the ball when ever we can. Union players chucking that ball all over the place on 1st tackle is one my biggest pet peeves and every team deals with it lol.

Most players that have been with us for a while know what their role is and what's expected from them in the passing game. But it's just funny that every team deals with the same stuff.

It's funny how it is so endemic amongst them. And then if you try to set a good example with some dummy half runs on the first or second tackle they scream at you because there was half an overlap on the other side of the field that may just have been able to be exploited if four passes with a soap-like football stuck.
