Just set up another academy. We'll use the 10 and 11 year olds and piss 'em off when they start demanding too much money.

Send our talent scouts to jamaica and find the fastest kids and sign them up. Then sign their faster brothers. Then go to America and find the fattest, slowest kid, feed him some more, give him an x-box and he is in charge of the opposition 40/20 ball placement

Now you're talking!

Although, it might all be for naught. They're already talking about changing the rule.

I think that would be the best thing to do in all honesty. With the finals approaching I think it would be a PR disaster is an incident like the one of Friday night occurred during a crucial match and a teams season was decided by it. I personally feel that finals football is the showpiece of rugby league in Australia and that the NRL cannot allow any officiating incidents to overshadow the games themselves like they did last year! e.g. the Cowboys vs Sharks game!

What's wrong with Fittler's suggestion of having a ball (and corner posts) already sitting near each 20 metre line? If you get the fat, slow ball boy, just let the player grab the ball himself.

As OMC has pointed out, there's been bugger all 40-20's all year. Why not let the team who manages to kick one have a good shot at scoring a try off it?

Why not have a ball boy with a ball in their hands every 10 m

I'm sure you could find 20 ball boys

If not how about people on newstart to earn there dole

This could go one of two ways for us... either we enter a siege mentality this week and use our feelings of maybe feeling like we were dudded a win to fire up bigtime and knock over Manly, or we collapse like a broken plastic chair that's been kicked in the changing sheds.

As for the ballboy stuff... next year they need to get the officials being the only ones that can hand balls to players (like in some other sports), we need to have a "receptacle of balls" near the touch line every 20m for the touchies to use (refilled/retrieved by ball boys), and for consistency the game should not expect/allow quick taps after the ball has left the field of play.

I completely agree with you! I think we will go back to play stopping until everyone is in position. During the Roosters vs Tigers game last night I heard Greg Alexander make an interesting point when he said that he felt that just because a team kicks a 40/20 it doesn't give them the right to score a try straight away and that the defending team should be allowed to set itself to defend the set of 6. I sort of got the feeling that he thought it was a bit of a mistake to change the rules and allow a quick tap to be taken from the 40/20.

I think only once this season has a team scored from the 40/20 tap.

I think teams do have the right to score if the defence is lazy getting back. Each team kicks a mere handful of 40 /20s each year. The memo is get back, or give up an easy try. Most times, the team is back (eg, chooks were back last night to stop wests, even though wests stuffed the tap up).

Keep the rule, teams will get better at actually doing it!

In all seriousness why doesn't the touch judge ...sorry sideline official have a ball (maybe in some kind of back pack) and have them place the ball on the line for the winger to pick up. They are running to that point anyway and that way it would remain official. If you leave the ball there just in case who is to say that someone doesn't trip over it or the ball boy kick it away.

Every second is critical for a quick 40/20 restart. We are going to need the quickest ballboys available who are well drilled in getting the ball into position as quick as possible.

But we will need them to turn into pumpkins when the other team kicks the 40/20

No, not this time. Wig & Pen and then pizza joint down the road. Had endured a day where some goose thought it a good idea to lock up 30 people on average salary of about 200k in a room at the Hyatt and ask them to suck eggs.

Have you been to the Bent Spoke yet? I was there last Saturday for a few during the day. Seems like a good place. Not cheap though.

Bottom line: we are NOT guaranteed a spot by winning all 3.

Gives us a red hot chance though!

I think if we win all 3 we could be in with a chance of a Home final. Having said that, if we don't win all 3 we will possibly miss the finals all together...

On this issue, if we get a Home final will they make us play away from Pirtek? I really cannot see the NRL allowing the game to be at Pirtek if it was Parra v Dogs for instance.

We won't play any Finals at Parra if we get the chance.
It will be at ANZ.

I think that would depend on who we played. If we play the Cowboys for instance, I dare say we wont be getting too many more to ANZ than we will Pirtek, The same could be argued for the Warriors.
