Club, well half of a club - anyways.

I also now have an allegiance with another club due to a close family member on their roster.

Game.
I enjoy watching as much RL as I can.
But I do have to be incredibly bored to watch $outh$ or Brisbane.

Its not just News though, CH9 and 2UE is just one long whinge fest as is most Fairfax news.

No sport in the world is covered in that way by its "own" media. Lots of sports cop flak from media outlets not associated with them (i.e. the NFL, EPL etc.) but not by their own official broadcasters.
Can you honestly say that though? How much NFL as an example media coverage do you read or are exposed to to make such a comparison?

It's too simple to blame the media. Every person or organisation in this country with a chip on their shoulder about anything bitches about the media.

Channel nein doesn't have to own the rights. Neither does news (fox) or whichever radio station had them these days. The NRL runs the game. It is ultimately responsible for deciding these things. The NRL is still the bitch of nein and news and fans of the game can't whinge about how those companies behave until that changes.

Really? Care to explain why leading up to the finals Reynolds got the same suspension for a blatant trip, head high and kick to the face all in one game that other players we getting done for that was less of a shoulder charge that Williams got nothing for? Cause you know that wasn't suss at all. The dogs got away with playing like dogs, Graham even got away with trying to take Sam out in the opening minutes of the Grand Final.

And yet they lost because of the Souths conspiracy right?

No judiciary in the country is as consistent as people would like, be it NRL, AFL, A League or even the many levels of court in Australia. Yet you're acting like it's solely a Rugby League problem and also a conspiracy from the hallways of HQ. Unless they invent the robot courts like in Futurama you'll never get the same punishment for the same crime from a pack of meatbags. And nor should we, because the offences are never exactly the same.

Nope not that sort of person at all, when your partner has MS looking at life that way will tear you down pretty quickly. Maybe having a young family on top of that has changed my perspective and out look to the point the game has shifted way down my priorities list or that I don't have a high tolerance for blatant ineptitude or half arsed efforts or no accountability or obvious favoritism.

Fair enough, sounds rough. It seems understandable that rugby league isn't high on your list of priorities. Hope it all works out for you!

I've watched 100s of games of NFL, even at through some Rugby, and 100s of English soccer.

Less than 3% of them ever complained about the state of the game or the officiating, unless it was an absolute howler.

9 is just one long whinge from pregame to post game.

All good. I used myself as an example of something different as the reason for club first and the love of the game dwindling. Whilst I acknowledge media does play some part with some people, it's not as big a part as being made out. People having families is another reason why their interest might dwindle, my children have zero interest in league, so when it comes to a choice between spending time with my family or league, family will always win. I just think it's naive to lump all the people who put club first in the same pigeon hole of not being real league fans and following the media. It would be like me saying all diehard league fans have no lives ect.

Yeah but you're including all media as a whole, that is something you do not have access to with regards to those sports so you can't really make that assumption.

Personally I would rather have commentators who call it as they see it, and generally they go off about screamers as well and not just little things. The fact that it can seem they go off alot shows just how many screamers happen in our game. The NFL refs barely put a foot wrong compared to NRL refs and video refs.

Not true about nfl, most plays you watch there is some infringement happening on the line. It's just the commentators don't focus on it and the tv cameras don't show 15 replays of every decision or non decision.

NFL simply doesn't have so many absolute howlers.

Rugby does - but the commentators are much more understanding. As they should be.

If league has a media problem it has nothing to do with conspiracy or bias. It is just the deliberate effort by any media associated with the game to dumb it down to "phwaar" or "whinge". The only exception is Roy Masters. There is not one decent TV show, radio show, newspaper column or magazine that focuses on league. Union has decent, serious and in depth analysis and coverage. So does cricket, soccer, motor sport, golf, fishing, baseball, basketball. NFL seems to have more than most.

The only sport that seems to have the same buffoon level coverage is AFL.

The is the problem the ARLC has to solve. Even if it creates it's own NFL inspired decent panel show. With real analysis and genuine experts. Piss off the weak jokes and blokey humour and treat the fans as something above imbeciles.

I agree with this virtually 100%.
