CCoastal - so the rednecks, the low IQ and the morons all carried on and said kick us out....but what good did it do?
You could say the same thing about our club and our fans in terms of being fickle, maybe not the sponsorship scenario - I wouldn't know.
But I do know sponsorship and that says the company you dealt with probably didn't have integrity high on their values list - and it's also, as you'd know, common everywhere. Always someone offering more for less.
And our club was a basket case. We had years of poor player behaviour, we couldn't find sponsors, we couldn't keep the ones we did find and no one paid top dollar, our debt was spiralling out of control, operationally we had NFI, we got owned by the press for years and we couldn't keep an issue in house to save ourselves.
When the ASADA story broke, the Chairman was nowhere to be found and press conference beamed around the globe was an nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.
So was anyone surprised that Joe Average fan had little to no sympathy for us????
Anyway, the other thing is, do you think we're immune to this?
In what planet does this not filter down to Sydney clubs? Surely it's just a matter of time.
Playing devil’s advocate, imagine for a moment we do have players involved.
What impact do you think that has on Lyall changing the brand narrative?
How devastating would that be commercially in trying to attract sponsors?
How tainted would we be then, how long for?
I'm hoping like hell that our noses are clean!
But until the cloud settles, I won’t be cheering any clubs that are caught up in it (well, except maybe the Roosters)
