While I agree it is poor behaviour Baz, it is worse behaviour to try and lodge a bad deal negotiated by a rogue employee whom you have not only sacked, but also managed to renegotiate his other shockers.

For all we know, part of the reason Hoppa's number is so high is due to illegally arranged TPAs. Could be that we are saying 'nope' to that section now?

No. The club are responsible for the apparent behaviour of Seward and failing to implement proper governance and oversight of what he was doing. There's nothing wrong with the club trying to re-negotiate, but if the player does not want to, then that is not his fault in any way.

There's not been any suggestion that illegally arranged TPAs are behind the problem. If such things existed, they would not have been in the contract that was supposed to be lodged with the NRL.

yeah this "rogue employee" stuff is a load of shit - he was the Parramatta CEO, apparently given the job of solely looking after all contract negotiations - end of story ...... if our management gave him that role then there is nothing rogue about it .... our management were/are dimwits

We sat around without a fullback and were re-signing a big average centre on tje same money that he best fullback in the game signed for.

And most of the merkins on this board had a million excuses for it.

We are the worst run club in the comp no matter how hard the Tigers want to try to take the title from us.

Yeh, there is a very interesting race to the bottom going on, but we are still odds on favourites.

But if it is yet to be submitted to the NRL it is not finalised.

Good governance ought to involve correcting past mistakes where possible.

I am fine if Hoppa goes because he wants too much cash. Not much Hoppa can do to force us to lodge any agreement with the NRL. I would prefer Hoppa stays for the reported 350k that we want him on though.

Yeh, but there's a difference between NRL ratification for salary cap purposes, and contract law as it applies in Australia broadly. If a contract has been agreed by the club's appropriately endorsed representatives and the player, there will be an explicit or implicit expectation that the club will act to have that contract lodged with and ratified by the NRL. Courts won't force specific performance here...but there's a very good chance that we would have to pay significant damages, which will be assessed under the cap.

If clubs are allowed to do what we are trying to do, the whole system will be f**ked. Just sign up players as early as you can, sit on the contract and later on work out which ones you actually want to play for you.

A bit OTT I reckon. We'll have a plan B. We're just seeing how this angle works out.

I'm still all for semi in the centres though might struggle defensively. Maybe try him in our last game

I'm sure we do. Just depends how good it is. Is it a Baldric plan (e.g. why don't we buy a killer bull, disguise it as a chicken, enter it into a c**k fight and back it at 500/1), or is it 'pay Hoppa 200k+ to play elsewhere, and take up one of our Top 25 slots', is it 'ignore it and it will hopefully go away or at least will take ages to finalise', or (hopefully) is 'can we find some mutually agreeable terms that reduce the extent of the damage'? And the last one seems the best we can hope for.

You may turn out to be right, but I think you want Semi to get the ball in 1-on-1s as often as you can.....and that's far more likely on the wing.

I still reckon the best option to end it, is to offer his brother a 2 year second tier deal with hoppa staying on the revised contract.
